Really?

Look, everybody knows and loves Game Dev Tycoon, but this is practically the same if not worse version of it. Its mostly entirely the same gameplay, with a few references to movies here and there but thats it. Doing a game report? Well you’ll forget what you learn because you only get a one time see of what goes good with what. Wanna progress the game? Nah, you wont be able to get anything better then a 5 rating. If you wanna progress, I hope you are willing to look up the wiki, cuz you’re not getting through it on your own. Overall a mocking blow at the original with a red N slapped on it.

Decent Game

The game is decent, but there are so many problems. 1. The Broken Rating System. I got 10’s for 2 games in a row, but suddenly on the next game I create, I get 2’s and 1’s, barely any reason whatsoever, because when I check the game report, I get a measly “Dialogue seems to be not important for this type of game”, I would appreciate a report that’s much more specific. Also, I can guarantee the 10’s I was somehow able to get was from pure luck, because I never got a 10 after that 2. The game is way too hard. If your trying to finish the game without using the wiki, then good luck, because it’s nearly impossible. I went bankrupt (for barely any reason, I blink once and suddenly I’m bankrupt) so many times without using the wiki. 3. Confusion. This kind of goes with the first one but it’s insanely hard to know why you’re failing or why you’re succeeding. The best the game gives you is one sentence that barely tells you anything. 4. Way too hard later on. Once you are able to buy the first upgrade to a new base, the difficulty is multiplied by 100, having to handle the workers and all of that other stuff, I can barely describe as I went bankrupt immediately after. 5. Contracts, All I want to say is that we really need a better description on how the contracts work, I never use them since I don’t know what they do. I really hope these issues get fixed as these are ruining everything about the game.

A Little Too Much

This is a type of game I typically love, and I do enjoy this one, too, but there are just a few things about it that are wrong.

For one, the pace is a little too frenetic. Sure, it starts slow, but by the mid to late game there are just a constant stream of annoying notifications - the most egregious being the PS1 equivalent’s announcement and day after follow up. I lived through the time, I get it, and while it is an interesting story, this is just presenting it like a pest. I would love to be able to turn these off and for some of them to be combined into one message, not two.
For two, the game’s pace is too hectic for what it is. There’s no pause button that I can find - at least once I thought I was on a screen that would function as a pause and focused elsewhere for a minute only to return to find unhappy employees who thought I was ignoring them. And so much of the game just flies by. I had the most enjoyment from playing after year 35 because there was a lot less of the mess.
Solid theme, addictive game loop, bummer of a pace.
