Great potential, with one minor caveat…
This app is really amazing for what it does. I have it controlling several scripts on my headless media server, and it works wonders. There is a delay of up to 10 seconds on some scripts, so it won’t work very well for some things like adjusting the volume incrementally.
Since installing this app, I have learned that the control is secured through iCloud, which makes it perfectly secure to use even in shares spaces. Awesome!
The one downside to this method is that two people can't control the same Mac unless they're both signed into the same iCloud account. I don't see a way around this technical limitation, but it's still a bit disappointing.
ROBUST. Still works w Catalina & 13.4
UPDATE: *Still* works in Catalina, upgraded from Mojave.
Things you can do in Entangler using Automator, shell scripts or both.
1/ Turn Remote Access programs like AnyDesk on and off. Turn off to keep the bad guys from attacking your machine. Turn on for access.
2/ Pass URLs to Safari or other browsers from your iPhone. Read later when you get home.
3/ Pass URLs to video processing apps to save data on your phone. See that seminar vid at home either in the app’s “history” or if you have a scraper you have videos waiting for you in ~/Downloads/
There are VERY FEW apps that survive OS upgrades, that were made to be stable. Entangler is one of these. It’s irreplaceable.
Developer isnt responsive
This app used to be great, with the ability to attach Applescripts, but its been hindered in an update to only accept .entangler files. There is no supportive documentation for how to create .entangler files, and the developer hasn't reply to my support requests. Unfortunately, one of my go-to apps has become useless and I'm removing it.
Developer Response ,
I apologize for not getting back to you, it's a terrible excuse I know, but I have been receiving hundreds of spam support requests a day for the past several months. Your request(s) must have accidentally slipped through with those. Again, I apologize for that.
Entangler has not stopped working with Applescripts, and the .entangler files are meant only as a means of transferring a script from one Entangler instance to another, or backing scripts up. You should be able to add Applescripts, Automator Actions, or Unix shell scripts, just as has always been the case. If you are unable to, then you are encountering an unknown issue and should submit a new support request. I will do better about filtering true support requests from the spam, but to ensure yours gets through include the phrase "Can't add Applescripts" in the subject line and I will watch closely for it.
Thanks, and again I am very sorry for the troubles you are encountering and for missing your support request. I hope I can resolve these issues for you and put Entangler back in your toolbox.
