It has has never been easier to know your limits and fly within them.
Iduna FLY does all the calculations for you so you can concentrate on what you love most – flying.

+ Weight & balance (takeoff, landing, zero fuel)
+ Takeoff calculations (including runway information, speeds, wind, slope, flaps, runway condition)
+ Climb & Cruise performance and speed
+ Simple VFR route or IFR with auto-routing
+ Fuel burn
+ Landing distance and speed (including wind, slope, flaps, runway condition)

Iduna FLY is the most advanced airplane specific flight preparation tool and performance pad. Great effort and care were put into its development. All the developers involved in this project are pilots, which ensures that you get the best results.

You can define your airplane including all its extra equipment available. You can set preferred measurement units for each airplane. Based on this information, you can complete any flight calculations within seconds. All the app-provided data is taken from the Airplane Flight Manual/Pilot’s Operating Handbook.

Do you want to see an airport in more detail? Iduna FLY is linked with RunwayMap (www.runwaymap.com) which allows you to virtually fly over the virtual airport and explore the area.

Useful but pricey aircraft profiles

I downloaded this app for the TOLD performance calcs. The description also noted many aircraft profiles including the C172S I fly, nice. I didn’t find out until I started that the 172S profile cost $30. That’s an awful lot of $$$ for something you can type in from the POH and considering pilots are rather cheap. I was able to create a profile manually. I am informed by the devs that they put much more data into the purchased aircraft profile. Still the price seems dear, I might consider paying $5-10 for a profile.

I did find that I needed to create some kind of flight plan with departure, arrival and alternate even if I was just staying in the pattern. Not a big deal but extra steps. It would be nice to have a home base default in the aircraft profile. I did find the data entry sliders to be a bit sensitive, I would get a runaway when trying to enter passenger weights, I’d prefer just to type in quantities myself. It was useful to be able to define passengers and just tap to enter their weights in the W&B template.

Once you have your TOLD entries complete the app produces a very nice set of diagrams with all the critical data, using the wind from the METARS for your departure, arrival and alternate. The app can output a PDF which is nice for loading into ForeFlight or other apps. I was unable to find a way to simply send the results directly to my AirPrint printer without having to create a PDF first, inconvenient but not a show stopper either.

Summary. Takes a bit of learning to navigate the system. As an example getting back to the W&B isn’t obvious, you have to tap on the Mass/Fuel panel of the result report, but it isn’t obvious . A button or W&B link would make it clear. I happened on it only by accident. Like any other UI there is a learning curve, once you know it you’ll be fine, for the first timer it could use more hints. The cost of the aircraft profiles is daunting, but you can enter at least the basic W&B data from your POH, you just won’t get the extra goodies they say they include in the purchased profiles. I think this app will probably have a good audience with commercial GA pilots. I didn’t find the subscription for IFR routes compelling since I can see routes ATC has already accepted in ForeFlight and other flight planning tools. That all being said as pilots we should all be doing TOLD for every flight. I like the spirt of the app. It automates TOLD calcs taking the guess work and interpolation out of the equation. For now I’m giving a 3 star rating mostly because of the cost of the addons and the UI could make some things more obvious. I do plan on playing with this app more.

Developer Response ,

Hi SwampFlyer, thanks for your new review.

We can best improve our product with feedback like yours. We will go through your concerns step by step and will improve the UI to make it as clear as possible within the next few versions of the app.

Regarding the pricing. We will also re-evaluate all feedback about that. It is a lot of data we add per airplane to get the results from the handbook. So this takes a lot of time. Therefore the price. Still we are open for new thoughts and will think about this again.

Any more feedback is welcome. Also don't hesitate to contact us via: support@iduna-fly.com

Kind Regards,
Your Iduna FLY team
