Helpful but

Love how easy it is to add and sort all the games I have played/want to play, especially like the “paused” category as well to remind me what I’ve put down. What would really make this better is including the wonderful walkthroughs ign has made for the games, having the ability to download even just the guide for the actively playing games that could be off-loaded later, Instead of having to navigate it all via browser. Just a thought! Overall like the app so far.

Great for tracking your games!

I’ve been impressed with this app as it has undergone many updates over the months. The list of games included in the database is massive. I use it mostly for my wishlist. Find the game in the database, click wishlist, and it’s added. Simple. If a game is delayed I don’t have to do anything, the new release date is updated in the database. You can order games on your lists by release date, review scores, how long to beat, or personal ranking. I’ll often order my list by the shortest to beat when selecting my next game to play. A feature also allows to to assign a console for each game.

There is a wishlist, library list, backlog, playing list, and beat list among others. In addition you can create personal playlists for any category you want and share them with others, or make them private. I have several, such as a list of games on Game Pass I would like to play. It’s also possible to follow other users.

Finally, another cool feature is after every game show, such as a Nintendo Direct, IGN will create a play list from the show that includes every game mentioned. It makes it very easy to go through their list and simply add to your wishlist. My only complaint is I wish you could see more games on your screen without scrolling. It’s currently 6 games for mobile. But otherwise the app is great. If you enjoy tracking your games, I would highly recommend.

Eh. Just okay…

IGN is way behind on getting an app like this released. Really could’ve used it several years ago when my backlog started growing big enough that I was losing track of it. From the start, it looks pretty polished and clean, simple to use if your collection isn’t very big or you don’t care about details. But there are a couple flaws that are major detractors for people who own or play a lot of games. One of them is that it takes several taps just to rate a game with your own score. At the end of each one there’s some sort of automated gif message that I guess we’re supposed to post somewhere? I really have no use for it, but it shouldn’t be so difficult to just rate something. The second and biggest issue I see is how difficult it is to specify which platform a backlogged game is on. It doesn’t ask you when you backlog, it just adds all games to a general backlog list. Okay, what about someone like me who has like 500-some games on their backlog? I’m either left to guess which of my 10 consoles has the game or I need to go through each of those 500 games individually in the app and add the console information. Wow. No thanks to either. I’ll check back in about 5 years when IGN finally decides to get it together. I’ll stick with GameTrack till then.
