As its name suggests, Insight Timer started as a simple timer app for meditating. But it’s evolved into a comprehensive (and award-winning) way to help people reduce anxiety, improve their sleep, and maybe even gain a little insight along the way. It features thousands of guided meditations across a range of styles: Buddhist mindfulness (which channels your inner monk), Kundalini yoga (which focuses on your posture), walking meditation (which is meditation on the move), and many others. Lessons range from just a few minutes to long and luxurious.
I was absolutely skeptical when my therapist recommended this app to me. But I have trusted her since day one pretty much and she was right about this also. I’m currently on day 207 of my check in and never have missed a day yet. I make sure I set my intention for the day before anything else. The sleep meditation tracks are amazing and the nights I’m having a difficult night, I put one on and I’m out within just a few minutes. Seriously, it’s worth the download.
Insight Timer becomes whatever you want it or need it to be. It is a simple timer for meditation with ambient sounds. It holds an enormous library of user-created content: meditations, music, talks, and courses. It’s a community, as you find topics or teachers you feel aligned with, you can connect with others from around the world. Live-sessions let you do yoga together, pray together, meditate together, or just raise your vibration. I use IT almost daily. It truly has been a life-changer.
I’ve been using Insight Timer for years, and it’s been a partner for difficult times and good. I’ve discovered new teachers, new types of meditation. I’ve used one guided meditation before every job interview or speaking event! I’ve enjoyed it both as a paid member and not - tons of content available for free. The paid membership allows you to go deeper with courses and unlock more meditations from teachers you like. Highly recommend!!!
So good, diverse and surprising. The LIVE classes zoom you to places all over the world to be with your teacher, and while there you join others from all over the planet, and share your comments and questions, connecting together. Even find new friends locally or around the world, share ideas and favorites you’ve found on IT, support each other, or arrange to meet locally for lunch, etc. A really wonderful gift.
Dislike the removal of the daily intention that was replace with "goals." The daily intention was a reflective reminder and it has been replaced with a task-like check box. So now it feels like something I have to do rather than a reflection. I know I can tag the goal as an intention but it's not the same, especially with the dumb check box. So now I've removed the widget from my devices because I don't need a thing to check off my list. This app was perfect until this update.
I really enjoy this app’s many features but I am getting quite fatigued of having to hit “Continue” six or seven times to get past prompts to gamify of having a ~streak~. I already pay for this app, you do not need to goad me into using it more than what fits my current practice. A daily sadhana is transformative but my sadhana doesn’t always involve using the app. Would love to be able to Skip or turn off this feature and let me get to what I am opening the app to accomplish.
