  • Simple But Effective

It’s fantastic at stripping the garbage out of articles, in my RSS feed, and in Google News, just giving me the content. From the app it’s easy to share content via email or text. I do pay for premium and am a longtime user. The only features that I find somewhat lacking are the AI summaries and the now lost ability to share articles automatically to sites like Bluesky or X.

  • Not quite up to Pocket standards

    komrade64

I need a replacement for the Pocket read it later app. Although Instapaper seems to be the best alternative right now, it falls short of what I was used to. Instapaper is great for short web articles, but falls flat on longer multi-page articles. If I have to go through and download each page individually, there’s really no need for this app is there ?

Sorry to hear that. It sounds like we'll need to review the parsing on that particular site to correct any issues. Feel free to tap the "Report a problem" option at the bottom of the saved article in the Instapaper app, or send us an email to support@instapaper.com with an example link, and we'll be happy to look into it!

  • Slow Death of a Service

    SoperrepoS

Update: $60 a year is absurd! Told you so! OG review: I used to pay for Instapaper, then it was sold and went free, now it’s back to a pay service. In that transition I’ve lost hundreds of articles. Graduate research, personal project research, recipes, and long form articles… all gone. No notices given about exceeding data use, or a purge of articles before X date, just gone... Don’t trust this service with anything you value or might need to reference in the future. Lesson learned.

Hey there. You may be accessing your account through one of our mobile apps and seeing a limited amount of content downloaded for offline reading. You can update the number of articles you'd like downloaded to your device in Settings > Syncing. Keep in mind you'll always have access to all your articles from https://www.instapaper.com/u. If you need further support, email us at support@instapaper.com, and we'll be happy to help!

  • never loads new content

    Dermerat23

Tried to read some recently saved articles and waited over five minutes while it slowly loaded old articles one by one but wouldn't show me any of my recent saves. I thought maybe I was too optimistic about my sync settings, so I set the sync settings to the lowest amount. Didn't help. Uninstalled, restarted phone, reinstalled with lowest sync settings... again, one by one my older articles were slowly loaded at a pace of maybe one every 8 to 10 seconds, and I couldn't refresh to get the new saves. What is the point of this? How is this convenient if, by the time the app is ready to show me the article I wanted to read, my window for reading it (say, over a very quick breakfast) has closed? Am I supposed to wait, after saving an article, until the next day to read it, or would the app just continue to slowly load up old content at its leisure while ignoring me? Do I need to keep it open and on screen for one or more *hours* before I can start using it? I paid for premium, too, so i feel like a rube who just wasted his money. Back to Reader, I guess, even though its parsing engine gets worse by the month. At least with Reader I can access my saved content a few seconds after saving.

  • Great for a newscast

Revision: I’m revising my rating from 4 stars to two. Not only does the new version hang when transitioning to and from the car but you have to get all the way out, delete finished stories and create a new playlist but you still can’t forward to the next story without finishing the current one. It glitches though as it hangs when it is synced with my car and I get a call. It’s really hard to get it going again without stopping the car. There also needs to be a way to skip to the next story without having to scroll to find where it is at on the list. It should really just work like the iPhone music app

  • Needs fixes many fixes - used to be one of my apps ever

    joehutsko

Update after developer review: they’re aware of issues and working on fixes and improvements, so that ups it to 3 stars; happy to go 4 stars once the spacing issue is fixed with upper and lower borders on iPhone X in iBooks pagination mode, then 5 stars once they dim out the Home indicator. Thank you for listening, Instapaper folks. 🙌🏼📖📰👀Update for 7.5.2 on Jan 23, 2018, which purportedly hides Home indicator when you’re in full screen mode, however, I just tried it, in full screen mode, after closing all apps and restarting, and the home indicator is still there no matter what I try. See below comments with hopes those will get fixed as well as they’re still sane after 7.5.2.Previous: I’ve been a huge fan of Instantpaper for many many years, I love it, but one thing that’s always bugged me, is that there is no full justified text feature to make the margins on either side balance out like you can with Kindle, Nook, iBooks, etc. Also, the pagination feature to use iBooks like page turns on an iPhone 10 just doesn’t work properly, there’s a huge gap at the bottom of every page, while the top part of the screen and the text is way too close to the upper edge, I just need a simple fix, and maybe that will get fixed along with the lack of full justification, that would be so nice, that I would give it five stars again.

    Developer Response

Sorry for any inconvenience, the home bar hiding works on fast pagination as expected but not iBooks due to some technical differences (which I'd be more than happy to outline the specifics of if you want, just let us know at support@help.instapaper.com). We should be able to introduce support for it for the iBooks pagination display in a future update. We're also working on a variety of pagination improvements for future releases and I've filed a request for justified text so we can keep it in consideration. Let me know if there's anything else. Cheers!
