InstaPDF: Scan, OCR & Cloud 4+

This is a great option for scanning physical documents and saving/sharing them as PDFs.

The feature that automatically identifies and crops a page usually works well, and for the times it doesn’t (like under less than ideal lighting conditions), the recent update makes it considerably easier to crop (it used to be considerably frustrating to drag your finger to line up with the edges of your document, as the area was covered by your finger. Now the top of the screen shows a zoomed in viewpoint of what is covered by your finger!)

Nice app, but it’s really annoying that it doesn’t automatically adjust the size of the scan to fit the size of the actual item scanned! For example, if you scan a receipt, it saves it as a full-size page with glaring white space on the left and right sides of the receipt instead of trimming the sides off so the saved document looks like the receipt. This is strange, because during the scan process, the app does recognize the edges of the receipt perfectly, but it doesn’t save it that way. Basically, it’s the same outcome as making a photocopy of something. Not at all what a scan app should do.

Might seem like a small issue until you browse through all your saved scans and they all look exactly the same in thumbnail view. So I guess it’s back to Scanner Pro for me. Too bad!

My iPhone and this app makes a great pocket scanner. Ready at all times to get the job done. Fast clear works as good as a big scanner. If the fill in form and sign function worked as well as the Adobe Fill and sign free app. then this free Instapdf scan app would be awesome. But the Adobe scanner is slow and hard to use. Also Instapdf Free and secure storage is hard to beat. I recommend this app often to others.
