Description

isoBurn, simply put is an easy to use burning software that performs 2 functions. It can write images to disc and it can get information about the media before and after its been burned. If you want a quick, easy way to burn, ISO or DMG files to disc then you should get isoBurn.

From the Main Interface you can drag in a DMG or ISO file, select your burner, set a layer break if necessary and select if you want the disc ejected after the burn or not. After all that, just click Burn and your disc will be ready when the burn completes.

What if you have a disc and you are unsure what the properties of the disc are, maybe you had an unsuccessful burn using a different application and want to find out what went wrong? Insert a disc then click on the Media Info Tab.

Media Info will provide you with information such as medium type, disc size, used & free space, session & track count, erasable, overwritable and appendable status, a lead out address as well as what the layer break is.

isoBurn is simply as the name suggests, a quick and effective way to burn images to a disc.

Truncates source files!

I got this app to burn some backups while ignoring the end of the image if it is too big - this is something I knew the app could do. I managed to burn one disk fine then on the second one it actually truncated to ZERO BYTES the source ISO file - Be very careful when feeding it files.

Simple and to the point.

I just needed a simple utility to burn a bootable disc image (an ISO I had downloaded), and the utility did just that, no problem. I've burned probably about 20 discs with this utility and maybe once have had a ruined disc, but that's a lot better than other applications I've used in the past. If this app were to gain the ability to rip discs images (more like ImgBurn for Windows) and a nice graphical facelift (it's not bad, but I've learned to expect better interfaces from Mac apps), this app would hands down be 5 stars.

Pros: Simple UI, high success rate, easy and quick to use.

Cons: Not the prettiest interface, could add a rip feature.

Flaky?

The first ISO file I tried to burn ... hung. The isoburn program let me drag my ISO filename to it's "drag here" square,
and I clicked on "Next". Up popped a window that asked me about enable "Layer Break" (?????). I clicked "Next", and
nothing happened. Repeatedly. Dead in the water.

The problem was probably caused by a malformed ISO image (141 MBs instead of the 345 MBs it should have been) ...
but ... *TELL ME*. Don't hang. Don't fail to react to a button click.

I re-downloaded the ISO, and re-ran isoburn from scratch. It's now burning at 4x.
Why noit 16x? I have no idea ... Mac OS X defaulted to 16x for the drive.

I re-ran isoburn. The speed selection pull-down has:

[ maximum possible (31x) ]

[ 4.0 x]
[ 8.0 x]
[ 16.0 x]
[ 24.0 x]
[ 32.0 x]

So...is 31x (not 32x) really the maximum? :)
It doesn't give this user a warm fuzzy feeling.

So, turn to online help ... there is none.
