  • Great app!

This is the best Mastodon client I’ve used thus far! Some minor details here and there that could be fixed (tapping on your profile image in the upper left, the “setting” interior of the fly out menu can be scrolled and breaks pretty easily). My top issue right now is lack of progress bar when posting videos. You hit “post”, the message composer screen immediately closes, but there’s no visual indication that an upload is happening in the background until potentially minutes later when the confirmation toast finally appears. Thanks to the team for the hard work on this lovely app as always!!

This app isn't bad but it is starting to lag more and more and feels like a money grab from people who expected to float through this transition. The price doesn't reflect the features and effort at this point for how much it crashes, the search has been broken since TestFlight early on yet works fine in other apps, following and unfollowing looks like it works only to find out later it just didn't. I could go on and on. Even the emoji for certain instances won't load and they aren't even able to animate anything so far. Basic apps do this for free. The biggest kick is the pricing. 2023 it was $25 for a year and now suddenly it's $15 in 2024. I feel shafted and I'm PO'd. These people seemingly have no interest in polishing this app they just want an easy subscription based option for income and it's gross to have taken advantage of people they way they have. They have a cult following that have rated it well just because of who they are from Twitter but don't fall for it. Plenty of free options and even website alternatives are much better. Save your money for groceries or bills we all need help on those these days.

  • Great App but charges for basic features

I’ve been having a good time using the app and I’m really hopeful that one day mastodon will be a suitable replacement for Reddit after the whole mess they’ve been causing this past month. I just have one issue right now. I’ve been trying to use the search function to find new users to follow and it keeps telling me “no posts found” “search may not be enabled on this instance.” I downloaded the regular mastodon app to try the same searches there and it worked just fine. Is this an issue stemming from not having a paid account or just a bug in the app?Editing my review. Still a great app but I realized that aside from my issues with searching which is a whole problem in itself. I cannot even follow or unfollow users without a subscription. This is kind of a dealbreaker for me and even though the app is cleanly designed and pretty smooth to use I can’t get behind paywalling features that should be stock. I would give an easy 4 or even 5 stars if this was not the case

  • Good app but why are audio media files still unsupported?

Generally pretty good, not much additional functionality beyond what Tweetbot did ported to Mastodon, but that’s good in itself. Still, one really egregious absence - and the reason for the 3 stars rather than 4 or 5 - is support for embedded audio files. They just show up as grey blocks, not even any indication what type of content is missing. I just got notified it’s time for a third subscription payment, so I’m pretty sure this has been missing for at the very least 2 years since the app launched. This doesn’t really seem like an unreasonable thing to expect as petty much table stakes for a social media app. Even just a sign that “this is audio and we don’t support it yet” would be better than just a grey square. Any clues when this is going to be implemented? Thanks!

  • Almost the perfect Mastodon app

Sadly, I am not going to renew my subscription to Ivory this year. Of the apps I’ve tried it gets the closest to what my ideal Mastodon app would be: boosting posts across different accounts; smooth scrolling and a generally excellent timeline UI; improvements on the web interface for interacting across instances. BUT it is missing two important features that detract from the experience: grouped notifications and threaded responses. The former is part of the Masodon core so why they haven’t implemented it is odd; the latter can be done because other apps have figured it out—following thread responses is messy in Ivory. It hasn’t been updated in a while, and those were just small updates, so maybe Tapbots realized there isn’t that much money to be made in Mastodon development. If this changes I’d probably come back.

  • My Favorite Mastodon App

I was a years-long Tweetbot for user. To me, it delivered the best Twitter experience on iOS for its design, easy navigation, and reliably fast performance. I’ve been using Ivory since its alpha, and I can confidently say that it brings the best of Tweetbot to Mastodon. While still in early preview, Ivory comes packed with features and a roadmap for more. The new set of open-ended interface icons play off the mastodon’s trunk, providing whimsy and a handcrafted luxury feel. It’s hard to explain, but the icons add a feel to Ivory that’s really pleasant.Tapbots hit a home run with Ivory, and I believe it will be the standard bearer for Mastodon apps on iOS. Ivory will certainly attract more users to Mastodon with its awesome user experience.
