Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Series 2 – NOW available as an app!
The meditations in the Series 2 app are designed for people who want a range of shorter guided meditations to help them develop and/or expand and deepen a personal meditation practice based on mindfulness. It gives you programs of varying lengths to use on different days, depending on how much time you can make for formal practice. They are a way for you to make maximum use of the time you do have to develop a strong and enduring daily practice.
The meditations were developed and recorded by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn to accompany his bestselling book Wherever You Go, There You Are: Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life.
The Series 2 App consists of 8 meditations of different lengths:
Track 1-3. Sitting meditations (10, 20 and 30 minutes)
Track 4-6. Lying down meditations (10, 20 and 30 minutes)
Track 7. Mountain Meditation (20 minutes)
Track 8. Lake Meditation (20 minutes)
About Jon Kabat-Zinn:
Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., is a meditation teacher, writer and scientist. He is Professor of Medicine emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he was founder (in 1979) and former director of its world-renowned Stress Reduction Clinic and founding Executive Director of the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society.
Together with his colleagues, Jon Kabat-Zinn has published numerous scientific papers on the clinical applications of mindfulness in medicine. His work has been featured in the Bill Moyers PBS special, Healing and the Mind, as well as on Oprah, Good Morning America, and in numerous print media.

Best of the Best
I have followed Jon Kabat Zinn since first reading his book, Full Catastrophe Living, and using his tapes, twenty years ago. I feel the same now as I did then. His practice, and the theory behind it, are research-based. As such, they have stood the test of time well, and will continue to do so. In the current era of meditation as a daily practice, Dr. Kabat Zinn remains what he has always been. That is, a true leader whose work excels at enhancing the lives of those who choose to practice meditation-based stress reduction.
Of course John Kabat Zinn is positively marvelous, and all of the meditations are fantastic. However, I’ve had several problems with all three of the series, and in the last four-ish weeks (since 8/29), I have received absolutely no reply from them... other than a recognition email to say that they will be back in touch with me within 24 hours!
The biggest problem is that unless you click End Session, your meditation does not get stored in the log. Or if you leave it and come back to it, it automatically closes the session. Another problem is that you can’t really pause any session for more than a few seconds, otherwise it’s lost. And there aren’t bells at the end of each session, so you don’t know if it’s ended. Someone as wonderful as he should have an app that represents him in a better light. Thank you.
Best Mindfulness Apps
I have taken Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction classes (MBSR). They were created and structured by Jon Kabat-Zinn, using mindfulness meditation techniques which originated in Asia.
There are many mindfulness app available today, but many do not conform to the actual principles of mindfulness the way that JKZ’s meditations do.
I do not know why there aren’t more reviews of JKZ’s apps. IMHO, these apps should be the most popular mindfulness apps in the Apple Store.
I try to spend at least 30 minutes a day in mindfulness meditation. I am endeavoring to engage in mindfulness mediation on a more consistent basis, since it’s a very powerful technique that can change one’s life.
I know the JKZ apps cost more, but they are worth the money. Thank you.
