Journey is a fast and powerful, yet simple to use app for browsing and organizing photos and videos, especially when you have lots of them. Browse through large galleries quickly, even if they are stored on external drives. Drag and drop interface lets you arrange folders, photos and videos the way you want, add new ones from an SD card or other source and easily export them to Desktop or anywhere else. Mark your favorites with a heart, add a star rating or tag photos for easy access later. There are many new features that are yet to come, so get in early and don't miss out.
▶ Available Features
∙ Simple drag and drop interface for folders, photos and videos
∙ Favorite photos you love with hearts and star ratings
∙ Group photos using custom colored tags
∙ Find photos taken on this day
∙ Support for video files
∙ Optimized thumbnail and image loading with caching

▶ How Journey Works?
Journey is designed to work with your photo files and folders. Whatever structure you use to organize your photos, Journey will simply display it on its side bar. If you move or rename a folder using Finder, Journey will immediately reflect that change. Conversely, if you create or move a folder to trash with Journey, the change will be instantly reflected in the file system too.
▶ File Format Support
Journey supports all popular image formats (JPEG, PNG, GIF, HEIF, etc) including RAW images from all major camera manufacturers. Journey also supports all major video formats.
- Redesigned for Big Sur and Monterey
- Added keyboard shortcuts for adding an image to favorites (F) and setting star rating (1-5)
- Other bug fixes and minor improvements
Ratings and Reviews
My 2 star review isn't showing, so I'll update it here. The problem was in fact the inability to read the contents of nested folders. I need to click down to the furthest folder. Then the photos show. I wish I could click a primary folder and see all the contents that is nested in it, but I can live with this, and it will speed up my workflow.
Close, but no Cigar
The application is fundementally good; however, it has a difficult time reading through very large collections of photos (e.g, >100Gb) and is slow to cache them so that they can be quickly reviewed. When using the sync feature the app takes a long time to perform a compare between source and cached files. There’s no clear or easy way to add more than one large collection to a library, or to create multiple libraries with different collections. The application has great potential, but hasn’t seen any developer love in a long time.
Developer Response ,
Thank you for your honest feedback. We plan to improve the speed of syncing and caching but with very limited development resources this will take some time. However, regarding multiple libraries, you can create a new library by selecting Window → Library in main menu or pressing Shift+Command+1.
Perfect for organizing photos without meta-data into folders
For a long time, I have been looking for a photo organizer that allows organizing photos in folders / subfolders. I have lots of old black-and-white pictures and scanned pictures without meta-data. It is easy to drag photos from the Journey app into a photo editor. A simple but effective app!
