EV JuiceNet 4+

I recently purchased a JuiceBox 40 from Costco. Despite a huge hassle with FedEx Ground, I was able to get the unit set up and working. It seems to stay connected to WiFi, but the general app experience is really bad. I called technical support in the late evening and spoke to a friendly gentleman who sounded to be from North America, so it’s good to know that help is available for inevitable problems down the line.

Also, be aware that there is no way to change settings on the EVSE without an internet connection. There is no way to use ad hoc WiFi to change settings—only set WiFi settings.

The app is bad. This is my first at home charger. I was concerned about the whole wifi to work the charger idea but was assured that the charger would work even if the wifi is down. That's not the case. Apparently there is a bug in the system. My wifi was down and my car had 70mi of charge left. It should have charged but didn't. At about 2am I checked and it wasn't charging so I plugged it in the wall outlet to at least get a little charge so I can drive 66 miles for work round trip. After sweating it getting home I called support and found out about the bug. They are working on a fix but not sure when. I talked to tech support who was very helpful and walked me through the lengthy process to use the hotspot on my phone to get the charger online and start charging now, not at the scheduled time. Got that resolved ...now wifi is up again and now I want to log in and start a charge but I can't log in. For some reason I was logged out then I choose Google to log in and I get to a Google screen, enter my email and I get an error message. I can't get off this screen now and it's not accepting my email. Still can't charge my car until I screw around with support again. Why can't the unit be controlled directly? I hate using an app for this. After jumping through hoops to log in the app doesn't offer much...start charge or schedule.

App works although it may not look cool or has modern user interfacing. I can control the charging remotely with said app and also set time of use (TOU) time frames to avoid charging when electricity costs are higher during peak hours, say from 5-8P.

I can look at logs of past charging events, how much power was drawn, the power rate, etc, so it does the job fine. I’d rather have these functions in place rather than CSI style animations and colors and worthless looks but that’s just me.

Four stars as there could be room for improvement, namely, it would be nice to be able to set certain days to have a full 24 hours charging window (i.e. no TOU for weekends) but instead, I must leave a 15 minute window of no-charging at like 3am as the app only allows you to set TOU in increments of 15 minutes and the app doesn’t allow you to set TOU for specific days of the week. I inquired about this through tech support and I must give them credit for the quick response but they too suggested the same workaround above. No big deal for now as my charging rarely goes beyond 3:00a and any kind of extended charging won’t detrimentally suffer from the lost 15 minutes.
