Reading practice

I've been dying to find a kanji study app that's more like a game than studying. This app fulfills that purpose. More importantly, it matches kanji with others so you can get a feel of how to read it when combines so you can see all the readings. My only problem is that it never tells you what the words or kanji means. If they told you what the English translations were, you could double this as vocabulary practice too.

More review than learning

I haven't made any purchases on this yet, but it's important to note that you need familiarity with kana and kanji to begin with. It's not flash cards with English meanings. It tests your knowledge of kanji (Chinese characters) by using kana (Japanese phonetics) to see if you understand how the kanji are used. Like for the number one, it will test you on the different ways to say it for different words. "One" by itself is pronounced "ichi," but "one of something" is the word for "one" plus the phonetic "tsu," making the word "hitotsu." This type of thing you need to already know. But there is a list of the kanji they are testing you on, so you could study them as you go, I suppose. They don't list exactly what they are, but you see the meanings in English, so you should be able to look them up before taking the tests. This type of learning app is an awesome idea! I'm just afraid I don't have enough knowledge of Japanese to get very far. I only know the very basics from studying on my own.
