The Apex compatibility for the Kessil AP9X and WiFi Dongle is finally here
1. Support Apex Mode (in the connection process, make sure to choose the same wireless router that your Apex connects to).
2. Includes the latest AP9X firmware v1.4.20 and WiFi Dongle v1.5.13, once the app is connected to the devices, it will automatically prompt a Firmware-Over-The-Air update. Required for Apex compatibility.
3. Miscellaneous bug fixes and performance improvement.
4. Now supports WPA-PSK encryption mode.

Feels like a Beta App

The connectivity between the app and the Kessil A360X light over WiFi needs some work. It took me several attempts to get the app to connect for the first time. I had to keep selecting retry then hit cancel and it finally connected. First thing I did was update the firmware. After updating, the app would not reconnect over WiFi and I had to reset the dongle and connect it to WiFi again. Eventually, the app connected to the light and I was able to manage it.

Connecting to the light directly using its WiFi SSID was much more consistent but leaves you without having internet connectivity and the ability to backup your light settings.

I recently experienced where the app would not connect to the light over the home WiFi again. After multiple retries and reloads, I resorted to resetting the app. Once I logged in with my credentials and selecting reload, it quickly found my light and I could manage it again.

The app needs a lot more development to address these connectivity issues. I found some graphical issues in the chart when adjusting a manual lighting schedules as well.

In summary, the app could use more work in the WiFi connectivity. Bluetooth LE would have been a nice option. The user interface could use some polishing as well.

The app works great, the problem is your network.

This app works flawlessly. No issues with connectivity or function. If you’re having problems with it, it’s because you don’t understand how to setup your network properly. Which is a problem for most people, because most people aren’t generally tech savvy enough to handle even simple tech. No offence meant to anyone, but if you’re having problems it isn’t the app, it’s your network, your skill set, or both. The majority of reefer’s are either old dudes struggling with tech, or young dudes that are too adhd to learn and read instructions.

You’ll see most reef apps have bad reviews. Same thing with Mobius which also works just fine. It’s not the app makers fault that the general public can’t figure out how to work their tech.

Cannot login to social media/Google

Every time I try to login the app spins for 30 seconds and takes me back to the login screen. The only way to move forward is to skip. However, you cannot save your settings this way. Is there a solution for this problem? This should function out of the box with the latest iOS and iPhone. Disappointed and frustrated.
