Description

KeyWack is a game for people with babies or small children who like to sit at their parent’s computer and bang the keyboard or click the mouse.

KeyWack prevents children from accidentally changing programs or documents, and makes banging even more fun by drawing random shapes and playing sounds as the keys are whacked. You can also click with the mouse to place a shape at a particular location.

You can use the program for educational purposes by displaying:
simple math equations
Morse code
HTML codes
City, county and country names
Personal names
Dictionary words (Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian , Spanish and Swedish)
Bible verses

It operates full screen, so press Command-Q to Quit. The other options are Command-B (Black/Grey), Command-R (Wipe screen), Command-S (Sounds on/off) and Command-K (Actual letters vs alphabetical order).

Not quite baby proof

It's a good idea. It is similar to a window's based program that I love (that was quite a bit more) called Baby Type. I wish they would make a Mac version. Anyway, the idea is to be able to let the kid go nuts on your keyboard or with the mouse and not have to worry, but this isn't quite baby proofed. One hting about baby type I like is that the keys are consistently one value sound, but there are multiple values for each key. So "C" would be "C" or a cat that meow's. I like that because my son LOVES to hear the kitty cat meow but it's so hard to get it to do any one sound so I find myself hitting keys a bunch to try to get it to play the cat again.

Another thing I mentioned before is the lack of baby proofness. (Like that word). So baby type the mouse isn't baby proofed but the keyboard is. All keys can be pushed, and none of them do anything. No matter the combination. Unfortuantely the Command plus another key combo does happen on accident. But even still- many of the top keys on the keyboard have a function and the mouse gestures will pull up the desktop. Either way, I find myself intervening frequently to get the screen off the desktop, the preferences menu, the dock, etc. There needs to be a way to have it worry-free. Either to make the Command combinations take a few seconds to make sure it's deliberate and also disable gestures and function keys at the top so that you don't accidentally end up on another screen. That would make this app 5 stars and worth the purchase price and more. I paid $20 for baby type and have been pleased with it so with the right tweaks I think a lot of parents would happily buy this app for $1.99 or even a little more. I'm not suggesting $20 but just as an example- the more baby friendly it is, the more valuable to the parent it becomes!

Both fun and frustrating

The screen does not appear to be true fullscreen. As a result, my son can grab the edge of the screen and pull it over. He often times can create key combinations that cause all sort of problems. I then have to take the keyboard and mouse from him to correct the screen at which time the game is not any fun for either of us.

Huge disappointment

I installed this for my daughter and after several frustrating minutes of playing with settings, the only way I could get this to do anything was to turn on the option to display ascii characters. My daughter just turned 1 and I’d like her to see the letters and numbers. I’m not at all happy and wish I could get my money back.
