Impressive and very complete

I have been teaching for nearly twenty years and I have seen nothing as effective at supplementing math education outside of school as this app. Many parents of my students have been telling me about KidCalc for a while and after using it in my classroom I now know why they love this app so much. My students don't want to put it down, and they are learning a lot from it. I have incorporated it into my curriculum and am seeing clear improvement in math skills, both in children who are not naturally inclined toward math as well as children who are already strong in math. This app has an impressive, complete, and engaging set of math lessons for kids pre-K through perhaps 3rd grade. My only criticism was that the voice-overs could stand to be improved a little. This app's most recent update did just that. This app has a history of regular improvements, and this recent update makes a great app even better. This publisher's other app, 123 color, is similarly impressive, probably even better at holding my students' attention. I saw it was the #1 education app for the iPad two weeks ago, and I know it was also the #1 education app for the iPhone last month. Excellent work this publisher does.

Extremely effective teaching tool

I am a first grade teacher and my wife is a third grade teacher. We have watched our two daughters, 3 and 5, use this app over the past four months, and have seen what they have learned from it. I can say that after watching both daughters play the math games in this app, that this app is responsible for having moved our 5 year old daughter's math skills well beyond her age, and even beyond the level of the students in both of our classrooms. This app was good before, which is obvious since I saw it was ranked #1, but the most recent update takes this app to a new level teaching math in a way that is fun for kids and not work. This app is serious about teaching math. I recommend having several math apps since each has a slightly different approach to teaching math and each has something different to offer. But this is the only one that our daughters won't stop playing. This app is the strongest at teaching number recognition for younger kids, early math for 4-6 year olds, and now counting forwards and backwards by varying increments for older children, a task challenging to many adults. Try counting backwards from 100 yourself by 7s or 8s. You probably won't be asking a 7 or 8 year old to do that anytime soon, but whatever increment your son or daughter is ready to learn, this app will teach them. Well worth its price. Five stars (more if that were possible)!
