Description
KinderSmart is an attendance tracking solution for iPhones for parents dropping children off at childcare providers. The application connects to the Controltec CenterTrack backend system, which is used by state and local government agencies to support subsidized childcare operations.
The system registers a parent’s iPhone by scanning a QR code. The parent must be present in the CenterTrack host database. Once a registered parent enters the facility, he or she scans a QR code displayed at the facility, which essentially logs the parent into the system.
Checking children in and out of care mimics the process done with pen on paper sign-in sheets, a process most parents are familiar with.
Step 1 – Child Selection
Once a user has scanned the QR code at the childcare provider, the list of children assigned to this user is displayed on the screen.
Step 2 - Transaction
The user performs the check-in or check-out transactions or transactions by indicating which child is checked in, checked out or absent by tapping the appropriate buttons on the screen. Then the user provides a signature and submits the record by tapping Submit.
Step 3 - Confirmation
The system confirms the transaction.
Summary:
For a practiced user, this takes a few seconds and collects the following authentication data elements:
• Name of user
• Signature
• Time of transaction
• Location of transaction
• Attendance records for each child, with type of transaction and optional note

Horrible
This is a terrible app. The back button often overlaps the time on the top left of the screen, making it extra hard to go back to the previous screen. There is no way to track what you did, so it’s useless in that sense, because you can’t even see your log history. It doesn’t fit the purpose of a logging app if your can’t have access to what you did or even to check if your check in/out went through or not. Such a frustrating experience.
Never worked for me more than twice
I don’t seem able to make it work. I updated my iPhone XR and downloaded many times the CA app, registered my phone many times, to no avail. The frustrating thing is that the Ohio app works perfectly fine. The California one is newer but the bugs are there for me. It may be my phone because other phones work, but why other versions work? Anyway, it is not working for me.

Frustrating app
This is my first time using this app and it was working for me about a week until my child’s school needed me to create a digital signature. That’s when it stopped working for me. It’s very frustrating when I can’t add a note or even get out of a note.
