Can't track sleep silently; no live data

After an unbearably long wait, I've finally got my headphones. They're alright, but keep disconnecting from the app, even when music is still playing through them.

Also, it seems that audio *has* to be playing in order to track sleep. So, if you got Kokoon headphones to listen to your own music in bed, or if you otherwise fall asleep best in silence, you're out of luck for sleep tracking.

The app doesn't have a way to show you "you are awake", "you are asleep", "you are in REM sleep", etc. This is the major reason I got these headphones. I want my sleep status displayed so that others in the room may see. I also want to meditate and see if I may have entered REM sleep accidentally, but the app doesn't give feedback like that. Only with audio, and only what audio was played, no sleep data yet.

Night 1: turned off audio, sleep tracking disabled due to no audio.
Night 2: with Kokoon's music playing, sleep tracking interrupted, headphones lost connection for unknown reason. Battery found to be full and still connected to music in the morning.

Hi. Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear you've been having connection issues, if this is still happening, please contact us at so we can resolve this for you.

We're continually working on our app and features, and will be introducing the option to track your sleep without any tracks playing in an upcoming update. We will also be introducing the option to listen to external audio while sleep tracking. We’re also working on releasing detailed sleep staging using our sensors soon, sorry to keep you waiting. The update will be ready in the coming weeks and we will let you know by email when it’s released. Our sleep staging will give a breakdown of your sleep at the end of each use, but does not provide real time data. This will not be an app feature, and will only be available via the API when we release this.

Very neat

Motivated to leave a review to balance out these negatives. Reminds me of the whinathon that was the kokoon Kickstarter comment section. I was a kickstarter backer for this during a time when I was having terrible difficulty sleeping. A trifling 3 years later, I received the headphones but was no longer suffering from this insomnia regularly. I used these for the first time last night and although I (while asleep) did rip them off my head 4 hours in, hitting my gf in the chest and waking her up angrily, I was pleased that they seemed to function normally & was able to see some cool data about my night into rem, light, & deep sleep. The moment of truth was to see whether or not they’d fail or succeed to track a 20 min meditation. And they’ve succeeded! Although the data is not detailed (anything under 2hrs 30 min will lack detail [REM, light, deep]), it accurately followed my 20 min meditation and made note of a transition from awake to sleep halfway through, which gave me valuable confidence in these mediations. I wish it was sophisticated enough to give me the detail as to how deep this “sleep” state was, but I suppose this tech is still in its infancy. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make a routine of wearing this nightly, but it’s certainly cool to experiment with to track the health of my sleep. Some ideas, like using nootropics, would make good use of these headphones.

Amazing hardware horrible software; DO NOT BUY!

The kokoon headphones are very well designed and comfortable. The audio library is very good. But the app is so bad it ruins everything. Audio files won’t download, randomly. Downloaded ones won’t play, randomly, and the headphones sometimes refuse to connect, usually right at bedtime. So here I am after midnight writing this review fuming over stupid software that doesn’t work instead of getting relaxing sleep. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT until they completely overhaul the software! If the headphones would at least connect I would at least have some very expensive noise canceling headphones to use. But that fails randomly and they’re useless. I have carefully put in numerous problem reports and the software never gets better. No real fixes are even hinted at. I should have gotten some high quality Bose headphones for a third less and used software that actually works, like Calm or Headspace. Horrible waste of money and frustration. I’m so mad I wish I could give negative stars.

Hi Finkga. I'm terribly sorry for the negative experience you've had with the mobile app. Unfortunately we have been experiencing instability in our servers recently which deal with our Audio and Sleep Data. We are in the process of upgrading these now and the issues will be fixed very soon. Please get in contact with us at if we can help!
