Description
Take a walk back in time and explore some of New York City's most elegant retail landmarks!
This app provides a location-based guide to the Ladies' Mile Historic District, which was one of the city's premier shopping destinations in the decades from 1850 to 1900, serving the well-to-do “carriage trade” with soaring cast-iron architecture that defined a new era of shopping.
The app features exterior and interior illustrations of the architecturally important buildings in the district, as well as ink, pen and watercolor drawings of fashion and accessories from famous designers of the period.
The interactive map updates your location as you stroll the neighborhood, located from 15th and 24th streets between Broadway and Sixth Avenue, providing colorful historic context based on research from the digital archives of the New York City Public Library.
