Lanscan has always been apart of the toolset I use to help manage networks and I never really thought about leaving a review until I ran into another networking tool and realized how great it was over the 5 years of me using it.I never had a problem paying out in supporting the developers over these years (Even when they moved licenses around a few years back but they still helped the loyal customers!) and I never thought to leave a heart warming review until now, so I want to say THANK YOU. I love this tool and the work that went into it as simple it may seem. It's really worth the money (A few cups of coffee). Especially since they just updated it for the new M1 Macs (When I eventually get my new mac I can continue to use it!) and most importantly affordable with a one time license, what more can you ask for? 😌
I have been using LanScan now for years. If you want a simple and straightforward discovery tool, it doesn't get any better than this. If I need to dig into the nitty-gritty of what is on the networks I work on, I use another tool, but if I want to know at a quick glance what is out there, this is my first option. Could it be better? Of course. I would love for the software to give me the same level and variety of information regardless of the subnet my machine is currently on. YES. For those that constantly work in a multi-subnet environment and only want one tool to parse network data, this is not the best choice. If you don't mind data-holes in your reports and just neeed to know what IPs are in use, this is an excellent tool.
Hi Yguerra, thanks for your feedback and your suggestion : it's a nice enhancement to do multiple subnet scans. Added to development wishlist
This is one of my most used utilities when working on my various IoT electronics projects. Great for getting the IP addresses of my devices and labeling what is what and telling at a glance if they are online. If there were an easy way to see recently added devices it would be perfect (I have over 50 on my main network).I like that the "scan from" addresses automatically changes depending on which of my WiFi networks/hotspots I connect to.The developer is always tweeking and improving this app; it is updated more often than anything else on my Mac. I've even grown to like the duck icon as it makes it really easy to spot!
Hi Bill, thanks for your feedback and your kind words, indeed "Time since discovery" & "Time since last seen" are two columns which would add value and easy to implement, added to dev wish list for coming releases! Enjoy LanScan!
I picked up a copy a few years ago and used LanScan in the "free" mode. It's been fantastic to take a quick inventory of the machines on my lans.Eventually, I had a need for the additional information so I ponied up the six dollars for the pro version (buy in-app, not the separate version). This has made it so simple to find IP addresses for devices I cannot quickly get to or which don't have a way to view it. The built-in port scan is just gravey. Definitely worth the money.Recently, I upgraded to Catalina and tried to do a scan on a machine with multiple interfaces. Though I had a problem, so I emailed the developer (accessed through the app's Help menu). On a Sunday, I got a response in 6 minutes. I was amazed. OK, so I probably won't always get the level of support every time, but I was happy. Turns out it was a cockpit error, but the email clearly addressed my problem and contained everything I needed to use LanScan correctly.
I have a couple dozen devices on my home network. Most of the time, everything works. But when something goes awry, LanScan is my first stop to figure out what is going on. I bought the Pro upgrade, which is well worth the price. Having visibility of hostname, DNS names, and SMB name and domain all in one table is great. As is the extended port-scanning.I recently had a problem with an app startup conflict, and the developer was extrordinary in his pursuit of a solution. I had a working alternative debug version in a couple days, and a full fix in the App Store in less than two weeks. Outstanding!
I've used LanScan (and Debookee) for years, and it *always* works for me, and has helped me solve many network problems over the years.I recently switched to the app store version (from the old pre-app-store one), and I like the ability to get scans of multiple interfaces displayed on the same page! I've interacted with support a few times, and it's stellar ... one of the best groups I've dealt with (and as a programmer for over 55 years, that's saying something!). Always quick, and willing to consider/discuss ideas.
Thanks Stan for being such an awesome user! 😊 Your kind words fuel us to keep developing and supporting LanScan with full energy! 💪🚀
I was hacked and couldnt stop it.. I had little to no understanding of networking.. I got this app and it showed me a rogue device on my network. My network itself had been hacked so to speak. If it was not for this app, i would still be in that mess.. Although the app didn't fix the situation for me, it identified something I didn't know was there.. A huge security issue that was wreaking havoc on me.. Worth the purchase. Also, if some device is able to hide itself in my current network, this app showed it to me every time..
Glad we helped you! Enjoy LanScan!
I've used LanScan for a few years now, and while there have been some issues along the way, support is always responsive and almost always gets issue resolved completely or to a reasonable level. I use this app daily to monitor devices on my wifi, and am very happy with it as a basic monitoring tool.I appreciate the support and ongoing bugfixes, new features, and usability improvements. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Thank you for your encouragement! Let's keep going, enjoy LanScan!
Lanscan has remarkably good performance for scanning a network. Very fast indeed. That's worth some points.Hiding/showing columns works ok, but the feature is hidden. You must right-click on the heading row to select column visibility. Column selection should have been made available by a standard View menu. I have some concerns about product support, though. I found that export feature exports *all* columns, regardless of whether you've hidden them explicitly. Further, the output file is labelled as a .txt file (even though it is actually delimited). Product support was slow and then gave incorrect responses. They claimed that such fixes would confuse users. Hmmm. No. The fixes are to (1) use the correct export file extension (not .txt) and (2) just fix the export to respect the fields the user has chosen; no new UI changes needed.I don't have much confidence in the developers of this product. This product has potential, but it ain't there yet.
Hi, I understand you would develop your own software differently. As stated in the various emails we exchanged : 1. LanScan exports are TSV (tabulated Separated Values) but we keep .txt not to confuse our non-advanced users with .tsv or .csv without commas. 2. We plan to add the feature to export only visible columns in v7.0.4. #Confidence #Support
I've been using this app for over six years and it fit my need precisely to inventory my home network. It's amazing how easy it is to lose track of the devices we continuously add. This app provides a quick and simple snapshot of active connections.Although many other apps can perform this task, I found this developer to be very responsive to my questions, including suggestions that proved valuable to me. It's not always just the product but more so the people who stand behind it.
I've been using this App for quite a while. It provides all the information and access I need to manage a home network in a smart house with over 70 devices (not including ZWave), including wired and wifi desktop and laptop Macs, a whole house Sonos system, Smart TVS, A NAS, iPads, and iPhones. In s recent netwrok expansion, LanScan started exhibiting unusual behavior. One email to support and an etremely fast response later, all was well. This is one App tht's really worth having.

After suffering through the greedy "IP scan basic/home/pro" bait and switch of a competitor, I am pleased to say that LanScan is a fine reliable product. It's naming "discovery" is not as good as others (you end up having to add nearly every Hostname manually) but once that is done, it's fast and reliable. (What gives me pause: the "pro" version has been discontinued and now they proudly proclaim that future updates will follow the in-app-purchase model. It appears Debookee-team has gone to the dark-side? Sadly. TIme will tell)
Hey xTexLutz ! Thanks for your kind words. Not sure what you mean by dark side of the in-app purchase, both LanScan+In-App and LanScan Pro had the same features since we started to code both app when in-app didn't exist. Simply a better user experience for users ! More info here : https://github.com/iwaxx/blog/issues/8 (or google "How we migrated our LanScan Pro users to LanScan on App Store")
