“Lapse” is an experiential, augmented reality installation presented by Ivan Toth Depeña that takes you on a journey throughout several sites in Miami, uncovering virtual art experiences using your mobile device and it’s camera. Simply stated “augmented reality” allows you to use your mobile device’s camera to reveal a virtual layer of text and imagery that only exists using computer visualization. Using various media such the digital image, sound, light and video, the artist can communicate with a different language than is typically available between artist and viewer.
The project narrative depicts a fictional artist’s technological mistake that begins a disruption in real-world time and space. The artist’s piece “Lapse” creates an alternate reality that fuses with the physical realm, until the artist can no longer distinguish between the two.
