In a world where ready made presets and loops have made music making a lot easier, it has also made music less personal. Life by XLN Audio enables you to easily capture your life moments and instantly create beats – adding life to your music.

With the Life Field Recorder companion app, you can capture a moment from your favourite spot in the woods, or the ignition from a car. You can explore rhythmic sounds from a pedestrian crossing or different kitchen appliances. Try something different and explore underwater sounds. Capture walking on gravel. Anything can become a beat. The recordings made by the Life Field Recorder are automatically synced and instantly available in the Life by XLN Audio plugin (sold separately) where you can create beats. Recording, importing, slicing and sorting audio slices into beats is fully automated – so you can focus on capturing moments and creating beats. You can also import audio or video directly into the Life Field Recorder from your camera roll to create beats from the moments you already cherish.

Excellent app, a few suggestions

Ability to add FX pre record (similar to koala sampler) so that the field recordings are recorded with pitch , reverb etc fx baked in. Also I may have missed it, but it seems like there is no way to sync playback with the DAW ? I would like for when I press play on ableton , the generated loop plays in sync . Besides that, very powerful, easy to use, fun and inspiring app. Well done XLN

Almost perfect

This app just works. The audio always shows up in my daw. I would give it five stars except for one minor issue that bugs me: when you’re asked to enter the name of the clip, it defaults to lowercase. Pretty much every other “naming box” on iOS auto capitalizes first character when you give something a name. Very minor, since I can manually capitalize, but it’s the one minor annoyance I have with app

Dope for pc, would like iPad version

This is a super fun and inspiring tool, please make a standalone version for iOS. Also would love if you added micro timing to steps instead of sequence bars (on xo too). Also, why no clipper?
