more I caved in and got the 30 day free trial so I can have full access to the premium journal. I love it. The prompts are great because sometimes I don't know what to reflect on or write. I do wish that it would give actual writing prompts (like story ideas, etc) because I'm a writer and have a bad case of writers block. Another thing I wish this app had was the ability to resize images. Along with images, some of the pictures I added got discolored when I opened the journal/entry the following day. Disappointed in that but hoping there's a cool new update coming up that will adress these issues!

I had high hopes for this upon initial install. It had everything I wanted for a reasonable price (compared to Day One) and video support. Unfortunately all it took was a few minutes of tinkering to dash those hopes. For starters, how is there no context menu or track pad slide support for anything on the MacOS version? The only option to delete an entry is to drag and drop into the trash. Okay, it took me a minute to figure that out but I’ll let it slide. Then, after importing Journals from Day One, I realized I no longer needed some of them. I proceeded to delete those as well. But wait, no drag and drop (the method mentioned above) No context menu? That’s right, you have to highlight the journal and hit delete. Where’s the consistency? I was willing to forgive these minor gripes cause I assumed this was a new app. Nope! It’s been around for almost a year. I mean this is UX 101.

Lifecraft makes me want to write every day. Even if I skip sometimes, I remember after a few days and come back to it because I look forward to interacting with it. The interface is just right, not extremely simple, but not overly complicated. The colors are so much fun! AND the developers will listen to your feedback. I’ve interacted with them when it first came out and they’re very open and eager to improve. If you have any new ideas, feel free to contact them. They’re extremely helpful with any issues you may be having as well. I don’t usually compare products openly, but I’m going to say it. I like Lifecraft better than DayOne! 6/5 stars.

I'm revising my review and taking this app from 5 stars to 2. It is SO glitchy. The only device where it functions properly is on my iPad. On my older iMac, however, it crashed constantly to the point where I couldn't even use it. Now I have a 3-day old new iMac and Lifecraft STILL will not work the way it should. Yes, it syncs between devices and I can journal in it, but it reverts back to a plain, small font every time I begin a new paragraph. I also wish it had a wider writing area. No matter how I stretch the app window, the writing appears in a thin column. I'm tempted to just use Apple's Pages as my journal from now on. But the question is...if I stop paying the yearly fee, will I lose what I've written so far??? I wish I could recommend this app but, sadly, I cannot.

2.1.0 02/06/2019
3.1.1/2 • fixed subscription verification problem.
3.1.0 • New & improved Compass messages.
• Compass messages can be translated into more than 100 languages (in the iOS version). If the messages are first read in the iOS version, the translated text will appear in the Mac version.
• It’s now easier to start a Compass message on one device and continue it on another.
• Zee can speak journal entries & Compass messages (recommend downloading an Enhanced or Premium voice like “Ava”).
• New photo browser for inserting photos/videos into journal entries (requires macOS 13).
• Redesigned Entry list. Instead of combining the LIST and CALENDAR in a single view, there’s now a List/Calendar control for switching between the two modes. This makes the interface much cleaner and easier to use.
• Redesigned More (···) view. Added a More > Insert button for all commands that insert content (photos, calendar events, links, etc.)
• A dashed list can be started in a journal entry by typing a hyphen followed by a space at the start of a line.
• Control-click a journal entry in the entry list to open a shortcuts menu.
• It’s now easier to create sub-journals.
• Many improvements to the Import/Export/Backup features. The Day One import feature works. Video, audio and PDF files are now correctly imported.
• Lifecraft now uses Apple’s weather service, which provides more detailed weather forecasts. This includes 10 days of forecasts with hourly weather for each day (hours can be selected to see the conditions for that hour). This feature requires macOS 13.
• Added a setting that controls whether weather is included in printouts/PDFs.
• When an entry is printed or exported to PDF, images are now scaled better so they don’t fill the entire page width.
• Smoother animation when new messages are added to the Compass view.
• Improved colors in the Compass view, especially when the Conrad theme is selected.
• Improved journal icons.
• Many user interface improvements.
• App is faster and uses less memory.
• Lifecraft now uses the latest App Store framework for easier subscription purchasing/verification.
BUG FIXES
• Fixed a bug where the text of an entry created from a template may not be the correct color when the Conrad theme is selected.
• If a new journal entry was created by clicking “Start Writing” in a Compass message AND the Conrad theme was selected, the entry text was sometimes the wrong color (dark text on a dark background) - fixed.
• Fixed several text color problems when inserting text in a journal entry while the Conrad theme is selected.
• Fixed a bug where the text of an entry created from a template may not be the correct color when the Conrad theme is selected.
• Fixed a bug that occurred when entering an emotion between 11PM and midnight.
• If a voice recording was trimmed so the entire recording was deleted, then the recording was continued, the original recording wouldn’t actually be deleted - fixed.
• Entries weren’t always sorted by date when exporting to JSON/PDF - fixed.
• Many more bug fixes.
