App falls slightly short of desktop browser

Really great to navigate app and love the way it works on my iPad. The biggest flaw is in the app you don’t have access to the notebook feature which you can get through your desk/laptop’s browser. I really love taking notes as I go through the lessons so I’m definitely missing that feature from the app; as well as starring my favorite lessons from a course. I like having the app because my iPad is more mobile and lets me take in lessons wherever I’m at, but right now I’m having to remember to log back in on my computer to star lessons & take notes which is a bummer. Developers please add the starred lessons & note taking 👏🏽

Comparatively speaking...

If you’re looking for a lecture, it’s decent. I have a free membership thru my work enterprise, which, honestly, is the only reason I use it. I don’t see ANYTHING with this app that makes it better value than lecture based competitors like udemy, courses, etc.

If you want to learn a technical skill this app is extremely difficult to use. Lecture exercises can be files up to 2gb -zipped-. So in addition to taking forever to download, I found the exercise files I pretty useless. It’s a swivel chair nightmare and there is no time built in or guides that even tell you when to open the exercises. Additionally, the files I’ve seen are more samples than actual exercises to go thru. Many don’t even have instructions enclosed. I’d much rather get a copy of the PowerPoints the instructors use (which, oddly, seems to be the only thing omitted from giant exercise files) or cheat sheets to help me in the real world.

Having a format where student can practice and learn-by-doing (a la Codecademy, even lightbot) would be ideal, but I realized this is a lot of work and MONEY that probably won’t be invested. Shame.

Reasonably good, some technical issues

Have used for several years, on and off, usually through a work subscription. Here are some general thoughts:

- Content is good, but less robust than other learning platforms lke Coursera. This can be good or bad, sometimes a short course on a timely topic is what I need. Sometimes, though, it would be nice to go deeper on a topic. You can create a collection, which is kind of the same idea, but because the content is developed separately, you may experience some overlap between courses. Ideally it would scaffold topics within a learning objective so you don’t have to piece together courses in order to achieve your learning objective

- Technically, it’s okay, but I recently found when trying to bookmark a course, the pop-up notification asking if I wanted to create a collection would freeze any other inputs. Videos would keep playing, but there was no response to scrolling or other touch inputs, including that x-out to close the notification. I’d have to restart the app every time I bookmarked a course. Happens from both the topic list view and within the course view (iPad Pro 12.9, 3rd gen, iOS 15.1).

So, lots to be happy about, a couple of bugs to resolve, and library that probably has something useful for you, but may not be as robust as a Coursera or other learning platform.
