Game-changer for PhD student

I never do reviews but I need to say that LiquidText has completely changed the way that I study and read. I'm a first-year PhD student and was really struggling how to organize my often disparate methods of reading and processing information. As a visual learner, simple highlighting and linear marginalia wasn't getting the job done on my iPad so I experimented with various mind-mapping apps. LiquidText immediately felt right in its ability to translate my thoughts into a clear visual. It's also the first app that has made me feel more comfortable reading on an iPad over a physical book or printed paper, which I never really though was possible. I've already given a handful of short demonstrations to classmates and friends who bought it after seeing how powerful it is. The student discount (one-time $20 fee) is generous, though I ended up upgrading to a Live subscription so I could have a backup of all my information, which is a recurring cost that significantly raises the cost for a student. Overall, it's a tremendously useful tool and well-worth the cost. Highly recommended for students and researchers of all kinds.
Extremely Glitchy

I opened the app and loaded a PDF in and when I tried to select something and move it to the workspace it selected the whole page and would not allow me to select a section. Then playing around with the different selection tools (I have the iPad version which I can work fine with) I finally got it to cut an area out with the freehand tool and move it to the workspace. However, when it appeared in the workspace it was literally microscopic and there is no zoom feature on the mac (on iPad you just pinch to zoom, easy fix, I can't do that on my mac and there's no zoom!). Then the document and outline section font size is incredibly small and you can't make it larger either, or if you can it's not obvious how. I use a very large screen and it's extremely difficult to work with the small fonts. Then trying to scroll through the document using page up and page down resulted in 3 pages for each press. Then the screen would blank out as I was scrolling randomly on and off (only the liquidtext screen nothing else on my computer blanked out so it was definitely a problem with the app itself. I'm running Catalina and have plenty of free memory). Basic things are so difficult to do in this app. It has potential but is simply not usable on a mac and if I can't go back and forth between my iPad and mac, its not really usable on either for me. And by the way, I tried restarting the program, etc. and it didn't fix it.
Very glitchy but great concept and quickly improving

Overall, the idea of this app is brilliant. It works okay; there are a lot of glitches and little things that are annoying. E.g., you can't drag and drop to move a file into a folder; if you change the settings of a project, those settings reset everytime you reopen it and you have to go back and change them each time; sometimes you just can't change the font size/add underline/italics/bold in a text box, but it works most of the time. The main thing that keeps me around is the ability to mark spots in the document and quickly jump back to them. That alone is worth it for me because my schooling requires me to read very long and dense documents, so being able to quickly find key points is crucial. The auto-excerpt function is brilliant and useful. Now that LiquidText syncs between my Mac and iPad, life got a lot easier, too. Overall, it's a GREAT concept but there are a LOT of glitches to work out. It seems that the developers are very open to feedback though and while I've had LiquidText (about a year) they have made major improvements, so I'm sticking around for the journey. Just be prepared that it's not a perfectly functioning app (although I would argue that it still can be very useful).
This update includes general UI improvements, performance enhancements, and important bug fixes to make the macOS app smoother and more reliable.
