Love RSS feeds? So do we!!

RSS feeds are a great way to follow updates on your favorite website. However, some sites set up their feeds to only show a portion of each entry, you know, to get you to click through to their actual website. We find that really annoying, and we're sure you do too.

Which is why, unlike other RSS feed readers, that either push you into a browser (in-app or otherwise), or depend on third party text parsing services and require you to be online to fetch the full text of one article at a time (which makes it no different from having to click/tap through to a website), in lire, you get your favorite RSS feeds as they should've been. You don't need to click through to any website (though, you do still have the option to, if you really wanted). It takes your favorite partial feeds, does it's magic, and converts them in to full feeds, so you don't have to click/tap on those annoying 'Read more' or 'Continue reading' links.

Once they're cached, you don't even need to be connected to read your full-text feeds.

Use as a standalone feed reader,

sync with any of the several services: Feedly, Feedbin, FeedHQ, The Old Reader, Inoreader, BazQux Reader, Newsblur, Feed Wrangler.

Great, but one major UI flaw for me

Lire is a very good RSS reader, with integration with many major sync services. Full text caching is the prime feature, and it works well 99% of the time.

Overall, the UI is well thought out, usable, and somewhat customizable. I would appreciate a single-tap way to select read or unread and other feed filter views, rather than having to tap on the menu and then select.

The main reason I'm not continuing to use the app is that the developer has elected to immediately hide articles as they are marked read (while in the "unread" articles view).

This makes it annoyingly time consuming to go to a different view and find an article I mistakenly marked as read, unmark it, and return to the "read" view. I make such errors enough, in rapid swiping and previewing through multiple feeds, that I'm giving up on Lire unless it provides a better solution in the future.

Warning: only works in this app!

I bought this since it claims it integrates with inoreader. Well it does, but it only imports your subscriptions. You cant export to inoreader or any other RSS reader. That means the full text extraction only works in this app, nothing else. Sorry, but I need something I can use within my existing RSS reader, I can’t be locked into an app on my phone or an expensive Mac-only desktop app. The only reason I didn’t contact apple to request a refund is because the developer was responsive and immediately fixed an issue with the feed I was testing, but again in the end it’s not useful to me so I ended up uninstalling it. Such a shame this “engine” can be used on any other platform.

Developer Response ,

Sorry, your 'Import/Export' analogy is not only misleading, it is completely incorrect. No-where is it claimed that lire will make full-text work outside the app. lire syncs with Inoreader just like every other 3rd-party app that syncs with Inoreader: in that it will not automatically modify the Feeds/Subscriptions on your Inoreader account. So, basically: the app does everything that to claims it does.

Love the app

I’ve been searching for the perfect (to me) RSS reader for quite a while, and this app may be the closest I’ve found.

There’s just a couple little things that impact the reading experience and have become more and more annoying to me over time:

1. Please remove the footer bar from the article list view. Maybe this info could be only on the main index page. I spend a lot of time on that list view and the footer is huge and redundant and just breaks my reading immersion.

2. Please introduce a session based approach to filtering the unread list. It’s jarring to load a list of 10 unread articles and have them disappear from the list as I go thru them. I get it, they’re “read”, but please just mark them as read and don’t change the list contents until I revisit this page or refresh the contents.

Thanks so much for all the work you’ve put into this app.
