Long Division helps students learn and practice the standard long division method step by step.
The app shows each part of the long division process visually. Students divide, multiply, subtract, and bring down digits one step at a time. Animated numbers move into place, helping students understand where each part of the calculation belongs.
Long Division can be used for classroom teaching, individual practice, tutoring, or homework support. Problems can be generated randomly or entered manually.
Features:
- Step-by-step long division practice
- Dividend can have 1–5 digits
- Divisor can have 1–3 digits
- Supports remainders
- Supports decimal dividends and divisors
- Can extend the division to additional decimal places
- Divisor can be larger than the dividend
- Optional highlighting of the current operation
- Current operation can be hidden for extra challenge
- Adjustable animation speed
- Customizable colors and settings
- Random or manually entered problems

Wired.com:
“The Long Division app is very clear and very useful.”
Teacher endorsement:
“The Math apps by Esa Helttula allow students to practice and reinforce the specific computation strategies taught in class, with as much or as little scaffolding as necessary. I am so glad to have come across this great educational tool!”

First the good news: it does what it says. It shows the steps that go into long division. Now the bad news: you need to know in advance how many decimal places to use. For example, depending on how many decimal places you start with, 20 / 1 = 0.0 R1, or 0.05, or 0.050. These values could confuse a kid with a shaky grasp of decimals.I would prefer it if the app responded more like a calculator. That is, 20 / 1 returns 0.05. I would also like the app to clearly show subtraction operations by showing the minus sign. But that's just me.Overall I'm happy with the app and I'm going to keep it.
Needs support for numbers more than 5 digits

I’m a former math teacher, and this was the ONLY app like this that I could find. I use it extensively (and the others in the suite) to teach my own children who have disabilities related to fine motor control, and therefore can’t do long division on paper. The one problem is that it maxes out at 99,999 and can’t do calculations with numbers bigger than 5 digit. Would LOVE to see an update that changes this. Also, the font size is small and even on a iPad Pro 12.9”, some of my kids with vision issues have trouble seeing the numbers.

If I could, I would give it -0 stars. This is a robbery, it is useless,it does not say if the result is wrong.
Great apps

I use the long division, long multiplication, column addition and column subtraction apps with my special education students in grades 1 through 5. I have my iPad connected to my LCD projector and we go through problems in their math books step by step. The kids love it and complete to see who can get the most problems correct. My district is looking at putting iPads into more classrooms and I hope they will include these apps. S Campbell special education teacher, resource K5
