Luma makes creating your personalized Surround WiFi network simple. With the app, you’re in total control.
The Luma app helps you set up a mesh network that’s customized to your unique home, and it's smart enough to keep that network running at full speed, full-time. All on its own.
Check your speed. Give access to friends. Set parental controls. Pause the internet for dinner. And see pretty much everything else you have ever wondered about your WiFi network, right on your phone.
Not only can you see who’s connected to your network, the Luma app also makes it easy for you to watch out for your family and home.
Just pull up the Luma app to see what devices are currently connected to your network. Luma also automatically recognizes any new devices in your home, and lets you grant or deny them access with a quick swipe.
The Luma app displays the results of Luma's enterprise-grade network security, so you never even have to think about it.

Luma is now abandonware
As others have mentioned, Luma as a company no longer exists. First Alert bought them in January of 2018 and promptly stopped releasing new firmware updates. Just a week before they announced the aquisition of Luma, First Alert released their own mesh WiFi system. I suspect Luma was bought for their intellectual property and/or engineering staff, and that First Alert had no intention of supporting the Luma system.
In the last few weeks my Lumas APs have been constantly dropping WiFi connectivity. One minute my phone is online and getting 300 Mbps on a speed test, the next minute it has no WiFi and I can’t even see my SSID, the next minute I’m back online. I called First Alert customer support and they said, “after 3-5 years your Luma devices are nearing the end of their life.” What? These things are all solid state components, why would they suddenly stop working? It’s more likely that First Alert is no longer interested in spending money supporting Luma and fixing problems. But hey, he did pitch me on buying First Alert’s own mesh WiFi system. Fool me once...
WiFi is great. App is terrible.
Why oh why can’t this developer get an update out?? The app has some nice-ish features, but they definitely need some polish. Aside from the app starting to show some wear at the seams, there are a bunch of other problems that I really wish they’d address... but apparently won’t.
For example, the developer hasn’t made any effort to update the app to be compatible with different screen sizes (*cough cough iPhone X*). The app also constantly logs out—like every SINGLE time I’m away from the app for more than just a couple minutes. This gets pretty aggravating when I’ve got guests over and they’re all joining my network.
Bottom line, 7 months is way too long for a phone app to go without an update, especially when the app you do have out is glaringly missing features.
I’ve been a Luma customer since the company’s inception. I upgraded to the optional paid guardian service for the router level VPN. Their VPN service freezes my connection, either advising my subscription has expired or displays a screen advising there is a problem and to contact Luma. I contacted Luma support 4 different times asking for help over 3 weeks. Each time I was promised someone would look into it and get back with me, and each time I never heard back. Their supervising agent was rude and still offered no help. I waited to write this review as I was promised the director would contact me. When he failed to do so I wanted to warn others that it appears this company is overwhelmed and not ready for prime time. I would definitely not recommend their guardian service, instead purchase a higher quality VPN for cheaper on your own.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
