Very nice app with one big flaw

After installing the app from the App Store a few days ago, I noticed that it was still the older version, 3.0.2. I had been reading of the new, improved 3.1 and I was looking forward to using that. I contacted Skylum Tech Support and they wrote that it'd take "months" for the update to show in the App Store. What followed made evident the other flawed part of the system: Skylum, the site –even when I login with my Apple Store user name– does not recognize me as the owner of any app so I had to send proof of purchase. They sent me back a serial number (that feels so 1990s-ish) so now then know me. After that was taken care of. Tech Support, sent me a link (three different ones, actually; two never worked) so I could directly install the app. I did and I had some issues. I contacted Skylum’s Tech Support again and they told me I had to uninstall the existing app first (“thanks so much” for NOT telling me right away, along with a link tho the installer!). Now v. 3.1 works. Unfortunately, the App Store now does not "see" that freshly installed app at all so, no more updates through them. Since the App Store seems to be out of the equation now, will the app itself now notify me of updates? Will I have to guess it’s time for an update? Will I have to request Skylum’s Tech Support for a link to download an updater? These are the little things that make an otherwise very nice app more of a challenge, unnecessarily so.

Glad to hear you've managed to install Luminar 3.1 per our instructions. Once the new version of Luminar 3 is approved by the App Store, it will be available for download here.

Cannot handle large catalogs

I have a large number of photos (>1 TB), but Luminar cannot handle this (causes non-recoverable crashes), which IMO significantly detracts from its usefulness as a file manangement app. This limitation is not stated anywhere in the app information, nor in the setup process, and it was only hinted at by Skylum support once after multiple trouble-shooting emails back and forth trying to figure out why it was crashing. I wish I had read the posts in the Skylum Support Community before buying -- many people are reporting the same issue. The solution, per Skylum support, is to load folders into different catalogs (an internal Luminar organization tool), but this means you cannot see all of your photos at once (you need to switch between catalogs).

As far as the UI, it is very intuitive. The "Looks" (filters) are many and varied, and some are really great for certain types of photos.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us! Our developers are constantly working on improving the app. The new update with lots of performance improvements will be available on the AppStore within a few days.

Nice When It Works

The results are great when the application doesn't simply crash and become altogether the point that I have to Force Quit on it just to get it to go away.
I'd give it 0 stars, but the pre-loaded Looks are pretty fantastic and the editing tools are convenient and not nearly as top heavy as Lightroom.
I love Aurora HDR 2019, but I'm overall not particularly satisfied with Luminar 3 due to performance issues. I've seen some of the other complaints regarding the library size being the issue and I do have a substantially large library I'm working with. Still, I shouldn't have to scale back my library for an application that is built to handle large photo libraries.
