What’s New

Version 9.8.5

Welcome to Luminos 9.8.5! This maintenance update fixes several cosmetic issues such as showing orbit lines for comets while on Earth, always turning moon orbits off when they're de-selected, and smoothly updating satellite positions in the sky view. A crash with the Goto button on the selection action bar is also fixed, plus a couple of rare crashes have been found and fixed using your shared crash reports, thank you for sharing them! Please see the release notes for a detailed list of fixes. Clear skies, - John

Love it, definitely would recommend a purchase.

Listen this app is exactly what your looking for If you love space, and space facts, own or plan to own a telescope, or just curious about what’s above your head at the moment this is the app for you. The price tag might seem steep but the information value, easy to use interface and level of stellar catalogs you get is worth it. Besides being vast in data this app is very informative, visually pleasing and a grate night sky navigation tool for novice and experienced astronomers. Telling you direction, ascension and magnitude of celestial bodies and stellar objects. On top of that there is an entire satellite catalog for you to track and view. It also has built-in compatibility for most rotor based scopes so you can keep speedy object in view. This app is a definite must have if you are an aspiring astronomer or astrophotographer.

Fun app

This is a very fun and informative app. Most features can be learned simply by tapping the buttons on the screen. Tapping on a star, planet or any object on the screen will bring up the name and basic info about it. If that is not enough, go to the browser then support and select user's guide and there are professional informative videos on how to operate the app. The Video on the basics is slightly more then 5 min. So it won't waste your time. Selecting a planet, the app will fly through the solar system and orbit the selected planet. Features on it can be selected for more information. Or select a satellite and go "ride" it, So you can see the earth from that perspective.
Fun to use and a serious astronomy tool also. My favorite astronomy app. I found the Andromeda galaxy a couple of nights ago using binoculars and was able to look up all the information on this app. It was really a delight to find and learn something new.

Update: I am still using this app a year later. I just found comet 46P Wirtanen, tonight using the app.

I'm still using this app the most for looking at the night sky with binoculars. I have tried two other apps, but they just don't work well for me.

This is a wonderful app, comprehensive, easy to use, truly well implemented, and runs well even on an old iPad.
Search for NGC 1672 in other "Pro" iPhone or iPad astronomy apps, zoom in, and... nothing! But Luminos shows you the galaxy and provides plenty of data as well.
The "Tonight" planner is well done providing the results in a graphical form, sorting entries by time of night or magnitude. Of course you can select any date from a calendar.
There is a wealth of information thoughtfully provided. For example, if a selected object is below the horizon, a message appears indicating how long before the object will rise above the horizon.
There are so many great features. This app is a labor of love, and it shows! BTW, questions are quickly answered by the developers.
