Description

Refund available within 14 days, no questions asked. To do that, click on "Report a Problem" on the app page in the App Store and select "Request a refund".

Dim the brightness of all your screens using handy sliders or keyboard shortcuts.

Works with iPad Sidecar, DisplayLink and all external monitors:
• Dell
• LG
• Samsung
• BenQ
• Sceptre
• PRISM
• Xiaomi
• AOC
• Acer
• HP
• ASUS
• ViewSonic
• MSI
• USB Monitors

Note: Lunar Lite uses Software Dimming using Gamma (or a dark overlay where Gamma is not available).

It does NOT use DDC/CI to change the real hardware brightness of your monitors.

For adjusting the hardware brightness, volume or input of the monitor, check out my other Lunar Pro app on the official website.

Major issue

1. The monitor will go completely dark after exiting this app. I had to disconnect, power cycle my monitor to be able to see anything again.
2. The app doesn't actually change the monitor's brightness using DDC/CI, it uses some sort of software overlay instead.

20211203 edit:

Thanks for the response! While someone coming from the website might incorrectly assume this app uses DDC/CI and your app description doesn't say it is software dimming, this is not the main reason I wrote this review.

Regarding the main issue (1):

- I only had one brightness adjustment app installed on this computer (this app). But not any longer for obvious reason.
- I didn't expect the app will work after it exits, but I do expect that it doesn't turn the display to blank on exit.
- I'm running Monterey non-Beta version.

It would be nice if the developer could at least try to reproduce the issue, maybe ask the user to help with debugging and find out the root cause (either within the app or otherwise), rather than assuming the user was using a different app or running a beta version OS.

Rating has been adjusted accordingly (no change).

Developer Response ,

Hi again blupig!

What I was trying to explain is that macOS removes any Gamma table adjustment as soon as you quit the app.

This is enforced by the macOS system, and even if I wanted to deliberately do it, I wouldn't be able to set the monitor to completely dark after the app is quit.

Only DDC can have that effect because the brightness is persisted in the monitor controller memory.

I did try to reproduce the issue but couldn't. I used my M1 MacBook Pro, one LG 4K monitor connected using USB-C, one iPad connected using Sidecar, one LG TV connected using both Airplay and HDMI (not at the same time).

One thing I could reproduce was a clash between f.lux and Lunar Lite. Because f.lux also uses Gamma for adjusting color temperature, both apps will adjust the Gamma tables at the same time which can lead to the last tables persisting in the running app.

In my case, when I quit Lunar Lite, the display was still dim because f.lux was persisting the Gamma changes.

After also quitting f.lux, the system reverted everything as expected.

I can't say for sure if your problem is related to f.lux, there maybe another app on your system affecting the Gamma tables.

In the last update (v1.1.2) I added a f.lux detection that, when f.lux is running, will revert Lunar Lite's Gamma changes and switch to the overlay method to avoid clashing. I also updated the app description to make it clear that DDC/CI is not possible in the App Store version.

Amanzing

I downloaded it on thier website for only 22 bucks and it works so smoothly. it looks so beautiful on the mac interface. More than worth it! To all the developers, thank so much.

works perfectly

Does exactly what it's supposed to do: fn F1 dims the screen; fn F2 brightens the screen.

Solved the control issue between my M1 Mac and LG monitor for three dollars.
