Magic Media Marker's main purpose is to process video files and make them pretty in iTunes and on your Apple Devices. Feed Magic Media Marker a video file and it will automatically determine if the file is a TV Show or a Movie by it's file name and download the appropriate metadata and artwork for you. Magic Media Marker is designed to be a “set it and forget it” kind of App needing no user interaction.

Automation Made Easy
Why spend so much time manually manipulating your video files? Even with other software that makes tagging your video “easy” you still have to go video by video approving changes. It’s time consuming and monotonous. Magic Media Marker stays up in the menu bar out of your way, doesn’t take up a lot of system resources, and best of all, after the initial set up (which is a breeze), it’s completely automated. Whether you manually feed Magic Media Marker or have it watch a folder for new videos, your attention is not needed. TV Shows and Movies show up in iTunes like magic ready to watch on any of your iDevices.

Driven By Powerful Databases
Magic Media Marker gets it’s metadata and artwork from powerful, established databases. For TV Shows Magic Media Marker pulls information from, and uses for Movies. With these two resources Magic Media Marker is able to quickly pull accurate results back for even more obscure titles.

Integrates with Growl
Magic Media Marker also takes advantage of Growl for notifications. Pair that with something like Prowl or Boxcar and you can have notifications sent to your phone when TV Shows are ready to watch.

The Power of HandBrake
If your videos need transcoding, Magic Media Marker is also able convert your videos for you so they are in the proper format for iTunes, or your iDevices. You can even link up with and control HandbrakeCLI for more powerful conversion options.

Remux Videos
MKV has become a popular video container and often times these videos contain h.264 video inside. This is the same video format that Apple's AppleTV, iPhone, and iPad prefer, however these devices can't read the video inside the MKV container. Magic Media Marker now has the ability to strip this video out of the mkv container, convert the audio if needed, and put it all back together in a m4v container that Apple's devices can read. This is called remuxing, not only does it save time over converting files, but it also avoids any quality loss since it is not transcoding the video.

Magic Media Marker now has the ability to rename your video files and place them in folders based on Genre for movies, and show name and season for TV Shows to help keep your post processed videos more organized.

-Transcode video files by itself, or by controlling HandbrakeCLI
-Remux MKV files with h264 video*
-Adds all meta data to Movies and TV Shows
-Sorts & cleans up video files for you
-A completely automated system for preparing your videos for iTunes and iDevices.

*Videos with DTS sound can not currently be remuxed, they will still be transcoded, tagged, and added to iTunes.

Don’t Do It

Absolutely the worst program I have ever had………..

Constant Crashes

it worked good for a few movies, but then constant crashing. Can not add more than 1 movie to your watched folder at a time or it crashes, link to handbrake does nothing, if for some chance it actually works and begins to download the metadata, 5 time out of 10 it gets it worng, even after I went and checked all the naming conventions and added the year of the movie to the title which was per the recommendation on the FAQ page.
Honestly I felt it had potential at first, but has too many bugs.

Great app in the making!

I've been considering building out something just like MMM and was pleased to find this app. The use of Handbrake is fairly unique and the functionality implemented is VERY close, I see these missing features as gaps still:

1- Unsure how the "custom" transcode works but I tried to indicate I wanted to use the "Apple TV 2" preset on my files without success. At the very least MMM should support all the "standard" presets that ship with Handbrake. For custom transcoding commands I would recommend checking out the approach used by KMTTG where you can use presets and then "tweak" the command line used if you need.

2- Control of the Handbrake process seems to be missing. While a "pause" would be REALLY awesome at the very least MMM should provide an option to kill the transcoding process, optionally cleaning up the unfinished file for me.

3- The {SHOW} - {SXXEXX} - {TITLE}.{EXT} format is very common but from what I can tell MMM only supports {SHOW} - {SXXEXX}.{EXT}, so it could use better expression support.

Finally as a _very_ low priority I would like to see MMM download the show details _before_ transcoding to spiff up the UI a bit. Possibly add a "detail" floating window that provides more detail on the progress of the transcode next to the show/movie details?

All in all I'm stoked at where this app could end up, keep up the great work!
