Every time you move a content from one app to the other, compare data side by side or multitask in any other way, you need all the windows arranged accordingly. Magnet makes this process clean and simple.
In one drag to the edge, you size a window into half of your screen. And by dragging windows to the corners, you snap them into quarters. Slide them to the bottom edge of your display to create thirds. Do the same on your ultra-wide monitor and arrange windows into sixths. Taking advantage of such arrangements eliminates app switching and greatly enhances workspace efficiency.
Magnet supports keyboard shortcuts as well, for every command it has to offer. There is that little icon sitting in the Menu Bar where you can find a predefined set or create yours.

A must needed application for your Mac!
Since macOS doesn’t have this integrated, it’s a much needed application for those who multitask or need to have windows side by side. It’s only $1, so it’s worth it! I think they did an awesome thing by making this $1 because it’s affordable and makes people want to try it more than if it were say $10, for instance. I wish other developers did that! The only thing I’ve noticed is that the “center” option to center a window doesn’t work occasionally. It’s a rare occurence, but sometimes it will stop working but will work after quitting the application and restarting it. I also love that it’s so lightweight when running.
Overall, I would highly recommend this app. Like I said, the only issue is that the center option stops working occasionally, but it’s such a rare occurence that it’s not something to fret over and it ends up working after you restart Magnet. The fact that there are so many options for window resizing and it’s so simple to use means that this is a must have application because it can accomodate so many different individual needs. For instance, I am a scientist and I need to have multiple windows open at times to write papers, look at journal articles, and also analyze data at the same time. I simply split my screen into thirds since I have a 27” iMac and it works flawlessly for me.
Every good thing you’ve heard about Magnet is true!
Apple has done very well to declare Magnet an Invaluable Utility and list it in its grouping of best “Get Productive” apps - it’s a tiny little program that gives Finder and program windows on the Mac the “Snap” feature that Microsoft Windows has had for quite a while now. With Magnet you can effortlessly resize windows to fill any half of the screen (horizontal or vertical), quarter of the screen, 1/3 or 2/3 of the screen (vertically), or fill just the center or the entirety of the screen by dragging the window to the appropriate area at the edge of the screen or by hitting the associated key combo (all of which you can easily define). If that sounds complicated, it’s not - you’ll get used to it in seconds and you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it. Think of it as the window-tiling feature in Microsoft Excel for the Mac…but for *everything*. Magnet makes it easy to compare lists, use screen space effectively and efficiently, present data consistently and attractively…you’ll find a use for it, and you’ll love it.
Magnet has become one of those absolutely essential programs that I immediately miss when I use a Mac that doesn’t have it running. It’s entirely worthy of its ludicrously high Customer Ratings; if you have the slightest inclination toward buying it, I heartily encourage you to do so.
One of the apps I use the most on my mac! I initially got it to have multiple documents that I was working on at once organized side-by-side, especially since Word for Mac circa 2011 didn’t have the arrange windows function that the Microsoft version did. However, Magnet blows that function out of the water!!! You can use it for *any* app you have open and can arrange your windows in 16 different ways (not just the horizontal split arrangement of Word for Mac)! The only thing better would probably be native app window management straight from Apple, but who knows if we’ll see that anytime soon, so Magnet is the way to go!
I’ve already used it 100 times since the last (Feb 2017) update and way more than that if you count starting from the previous versions (I’ve had the app about 2-3 years), so if you’re someone that often works with multiple windows at once on one small screen (i.e., you don’t have multiple monitors), you can’t go wrong with paying the 99 cents for this awesome app!
Full disclosure: I’ve never written an App Store review, but when Magnet asked me to write one after my 100th use since the last update, I had to do it, since it’s such a handy app!
