Magzter: Magazines, Newspapers
Ratings & Reviews
Magtzer itself is less a magazine subscription service and is more a portal serving as a gateway to read and discover magazines you know and don't know. Upon setup the app lets you select your interests and after you are finished it sets up on the main page a lists of publications that fits what you like. The publications are endless covering the most popular such as Entertainment Weekly, GQ, Wired and many more to the more niche. The application basically functions as a way to set up your own magazine store where you not only quickly access publications you enjoy but the featured articles from the issues as well. In the article section is a stream of featured and popular stories. This is great for users who may not want to always dive in on a whole issue and rather read bits from various magazines covering similar topics. Like with almost any reading based application articles can be shared and saved for later. All the content in the app can be managed in the My Collection section. Magtzer is a unique application and therefore has a unique payment structure with the ability to subscribe to individual magazines, purchase individual magazine issues or subscribe to the service allowing you to access any of the 8, 000 plus publications. Magtzer sweetens the deal giving users a taste of the service with a free 30 day trial. For users of Zinio Magtzer will be familiar but it can be described as richer more complete platform that allows you to completely manage your magazine lifestyle.
While the interface works well on iPhone and iPad, the web interface is little clunky. Barring these missing features, I think this is a great value:* no sync across devices - I have an iPhone as well as an iPad and if I read a magazine on one device, the app on other device should continue from where I left off.* favorites organization is severely lacking - I have many magazines as favorite and I can only see magazines in the order I added them. There should be some way to sort/group items* there is no visible download queue and the downloads stop when the app is in the background. I usually like to download few magazines before I leave for a trip but have to keep waiting for the downloads to finish. There is no easy way to know if the downloads have finished so I have to remember the last magazine I put in the queue and see if it is done

Advertises that they can give you 5,000 + magazines to read. The majority of them are useless. Most all credible magazines they list require you to buy a regular subscription to read. In some cases, the price you would pay through Magzter is more expensive than if you order directly from the publisher. What a scam. Been waiting 2 weeks to get back my promised payment.UPDATE: See the developers boiler plate, lame response to my negative review. A marketing pitch but no answer to my complaints. After 10 emails over 2 weeks I still haven’t received my refund on the 7 day “trial” even though I cancelled the subscription the 2nd day. It’s a fraudulent scam and my credit card company is investigating. Run, don’t stop and buy this worthless piece of junk. The 2 founders are nothing but con artists and should be investigated for deceptive advertising and fraud. Apple needs to get their act together and remove losers apps like this from the store.

I am an American but every single magazine and newspaper only caters to everywhere but the USA. It’s kind of useless to me. Can’t find any United States newspapers at all. I don’t really care what’s happening in other countries, give me news about my country. No wonder the price per month/year is so low, there is nothing here for some people. And by some people I mean Americans. Not one US newspaper. Really? What a horrible service. Thankfully I have 7 days to cancel. I think I canceled in less than 7 minutes! UPDATE before the developers send their canned response on how they want to help me and share their email in which I can get in touch with them. Just offer more of a choice for people from all over the world and stop just catering to Europe and Asia. Nothing over there concerns me. Also, how do you turn off the porn garbage? Tired of scrolling through magazines and I am faced with pages of smut! How do you turn this garbage off???

When it comes to magazine apps which collect all different types of magazines you don’t really expect all the magazines to be in one app as it’s hard to get permissions for all of your favourite magazines but Magzter managed to have every single magazine I read, which is to say the least is impressive. The variety provided by this app is just unbeatable and the fact that it manages all my online magazine subscriptions under one roof with its Magzter Gold is extremely helpful when it comes to my extremely limited amount of time. The layout was also extremely easy to navigate and use. Overall I’d recommended this to some of my peers who love having a simple solution for all their online magazine reading needs! :)
This is a very cool app that helps you access and subscribe to your favorite magazines and discover tons more. You can switch countries to find magazines available for purchase elsewhere and get them. The automatic renewals make receiving your favorite magazines so much more accessible. I can now cancel several physical magazine subscriptions and save on shipping costs. This is a far more convenient alternative. It's also great that due to the universal nature of this app, my favorites are available on all my devices. I prefer reading on my ipad, but I can catch up on, or finish an article of interest, whilst commuting to work by reading it on my iphone. The layout, interface and ease of use of this app is beyond compare. Highly recommended.
