Are you a Switcher? Have you got old e-mails archived somewhere? Have you ever wished that your Mac could read your old Microsoft Outlook .msg files? If so, MailRaider could be just what you need. Of course, it doesn't do everything (if it did everything then there'd be no need for MailRaider Pro), but if all you need to do is open Outlook files, retrieve their attachments, and convert them into more accessible formats then look no further. MailRaider is the best value software for opening Outlook messages on the whole App Store. Please note - if you need to preserve formatting, use Spotlight (to search inside your msg files from Finder) or use Quicklook (for a quick preview of your msg files), you need MailRaider Pro. The standard edition of MailRaider does not have this functionality - it displays email as plain text only. If you discover an Outlook .msg file that MailRaider won't open, please get in touch. Sadly, leaving a grumpy review here won't solve the problem. If you're serious about getting your problem solved then you're going to need to send me a problem report (full instructions for doing so are in the extensive MailRaider help files). I do respond to bug reports, so don't worry - you aren't wasting your time.

I forgot I’d had this app when a client sent me a bunch of .msg files from Windows Outlook with both text and photos I needed for a job. Mailraider opened the messages without a hitch and let me save the text of the emails AND the photos that were attached to it. Easy. Trouble-free. I saved in an RTF Archive to automatically extract the text and attachments into one folder. You can save as 3 other formats as well, but this one was what i needed. This app is a lifesaver if you have clients who forward you Windows email .msg files.

I wanted an app that would open .msg files and export them to .eml files. This app does exactly that - occasionally. I didn't want something that converts .pst files. Instead I wanted something to open individual e-mail messages created in Outlook 2003 on the PC and convert them to a format I could use in Outlook 2011 for the Mac. This seems to do the job but only intermittently. I can't determine a reason why it will succeed in converting some .msg files and not others.It always seems to be able to convert messages to .rtf files.It truncates the names of attached files.I tried to save only Excel files that were attached to .msg files. It seems to recognize the existence of only .xls files, not .xlsx files. So while it will successfully save an attached Excel file to my desktop I will sometimes have to relabel the suffix from .xls to .xlsx. Then Excel opens the file and repairs it, after which the file appears to be intact.I haven't tried handling any other attachment file types.This app always opens the .msg file and allows me to view it. It always allows me to save the message as a .rtf, but it is very unreliable at saving files in .eml format.I can use this app as a stopgap measure until it is updated to reliably convert .msg to .eml.

Love this app, it has saved me multiple times. However, since Big Sur, the attachment download function hasn't worked. Any plans to up date the app for Big Sur?

I’m worried that some people have been experiencing crashes in MailRaider - and these crashes haven’t been reported to me, so there’s nothing I can do to fix them! This version of MailRaider will detect if a crash occurs and offer to write an email with a crash report and send it to me if there’s a problem. It won’t do it immediately - there will need to be two consecutive crashes for this functionality to be triggered, but hopefully this will make it easier to report a problem and we can make MailRaider better for everyone. In addition, I’ve added additional protections against corrupted msg files.
