Description

Intelligent flashcards, purpose-built for Japanese. Join an online community of 日本語 learners!

OPTIMIZE
Manabi optimizes what and when you learn to make the most of your time. With its state-of-the-art spaced repetition algorithm, it'll remind you to review cards right as you're likely to forget them to maximize efficiency. If you fall behind, Manabi prioritizes the highest-impact cards rather than guilt-trip you about it.

BEYOND ROTE
Learn more than just "the answers". Example sentences from native speakers on Twitter and Weblio are pulled in automatically, as well as relevant StackExchange Q&A. Just scroll down on a card to learn more and make those memories more vivid so that they stick!

COMMUNITY
Users can share decks for others to subscribe to, with automatically-synced updates. Manabi is a community of Japanese learners, and comes with handy pre-built decks out-of-the-box.

READER INTEGRATION
One of the best ways to learn Japanese is by reading native materials. Use our companion app, Manabi Reader, for one-touch dictionary look-ups that let you seamlessly add flashcards into Manabi for the words you come across.

Excellent! But...

This app is wonderful and easy to use. I like that I can edit definitions on the card so I can learn the meanings in a way that sticks for me.
One thing I wish, though, is that one could see the English first and then flip to the kanji. I understand this is a kanji learning app, but after a few months use I see that I know what these kanji mean, but not how to pronounce them. I've turned off furigana to try and help this, but honestly I've just started making physical flash cards to supplement.

Great Study App but....

Edit 7/16: apparently there seems to be a bug where large phrases in flashcards become shaky and hard to read, dropping a star in hopes the dev can fix this

This is a fantastic app for reading and practicing Japanese along with Manabi reader but I feel as if some things feel missing. For one thing, it’s really weird when the app links you to the App Store download of Manabi reader when you’re told to read something in Japanese despite the fact that I already have it downloaded. That really is just a general fix but along with that, I use Anki alongside this app (just for General vocab, not for this I pick up in news articles) and the deck I use their provides audio for when reviewing cards. This may just be a personal preference but I would really appreciate a voice option during study to hear how the words sound and reinforce it. Otherwise, I feel that this app has a lot of potential. I have some notes for Manabi reader as well but I’ll have that over there. Keep up the good work!

Edit 7/17: Thanks for the new bug report. I've found a solution for this and will include it in this app's next update. In the future please report bugs through my support contact rather than use reviews for bug reporting, thanks! // Hi there - thanks for the useful feedback! I've fixed the "read something in Japanese" link to open the app if you have it installed. I've also added a todo to add flashcard audio in an upcoming update. If you have more ideas or feedback, please email them to me via the support contact button in the app. Cheers. - Alex

Evykun ,

Works great again!

OLD: Before the update, the app was running more or less okay, although it took a while for each new set of reviews to load. Now, it’s disconnecting and not saving any of my progress. I can only get one review in per day. I really liked this app and its connection to Manabi Reader; I hope it can be fixed soon!

EDIT: the latest update fixed everything! It’s back to working very well again. Great flashcard app, especially with the reader integration.

Developer Response ,

Hi Evykun - deepest apologies, please stay tuned very soon for a full upgrade
