Final Release - App Maintenance has ended. Please migrate to Map Pilot Pro.

Map Pilot Business is the same app as Map Pilot for DJI except it includes all of the In-App Purchase options at a discounted price. It is offered on a slightly delayed release schedule from Map Pilot to keep things as stable as possible for our Professional and Business customers.

This version will get more expensive over time as IAP options are added to Map Pilot. Map Pilot Business will have access to all future features added in Map Pilot for DJI with no additional update charges.

Map Pilot helps you create and fly the optimal flight path to create great maps using the Maps Made Easy map processing service. Collecting great data to create high resolution aerial maps with your DJI flying camera is just a few clicks away. Process into the final product using your own photogrammetry software or our Maps Made Easy online service. Mapping has never been easier.

Process unlimited jobs of up to 400 images (12 megapixels) for free with Maps Made Easy.

Get Map Pilot Business instead of this app to get all of the In App Purchases included by default and save money in the long run.

Excellent autonomous flight planner for mapping

I’ve been using Map Pilot for several months to create autonomous missions over forested mountainous terrain. I process these images in Pix4D to generate RGB orthomosaics, digital surface models, 3D point clouds, and multispectral orthomosaics for forest research (so I can’t comment on the Maps Made Easy image processing)

The flight planning app works well, with some occasional quirks. It is far superior to other autonomous flight planning software that I’ve used (DroneDeploy and Pix4D Capture, though maybe the last 3 months of updates to those apps have improved them).

The multi battery missions work well and the terrain awareness works like a dream. I’ve flown autonomous missions with over 800 feet of elevation change across the surveyed area and the app keeps my drone rolling right over the terrain at a specified altitude above ground level with no problem.

Offline support works well, and most of my missions are in spotty cell phone coverage. Enough surrounding base map is cached that I can adjust the flight plan on site if needed.

It uses a lot of iPad battery, which I’m told is because DJI’s SDK has recently turned on a bunch of background data logging that can’t be turned off. I’m currently seeking a solution to this, as my iPad mini 4 battery runs out after a few hours of flight time.

Really happy with this app so far, and looking forward to future improvements.

Cannot manually control camera

I purchased this app so I could take raw pictures. I guess the last few Apple updates have broken it. I can’t manually control the camera. No raw pictures and only infinity focus. Terrain Aware works on my Mini 4 but no longer works on my new 2020 iPad Pro 11 inch. Very frustrating and disappointing. Please fix these issues or I’ll need to move on to the next greatest widget. I know there will be people that will say you can’t process raw pictures but there are good reasons to use raw pictures in your work flow. If you sell a program that claims to be “professional “ you should give the operator ALL the control over the drone and camera and let the pilot decide what is need for the mission. Getter done guys!

Developer Response ,

We would love to hear about the bugs in our support channels so we can fix the issues instead of reading about them in reviews.

This app was good until using on an iOS 14 device

This app, what is my four, the best mapping app out there as far as quality images is concerned. It does need some work and tweaks that have been suggested to the developer. Hopefully, they implement these. Missions are stored on the cloud but are not deleted or removed from the cloud. That is one major downfall. Another concern is that manual coordinates cannot be set. This is an issue where cellular coverage is low and the land is undeveloped.
There are definitely some issues on iOS 14. The app now crashes pretty consistent. Hopefully they can get this resolved soon.

Developer Response ,

Most of these concerns have been addressed in the new Map Pilot Pro app. Still no manual coordinate setting though. You can import a KML to do that though. There are lots of tools for editing those manually.
