Ratings and Reviews
A little buggy so far
I’m very familiar with the board game. Most of this digital version plays very smoothly (I’m using an iPad mini 6). However, on the last round of my first game, I could not complete my turn. It would not let me draw up to my hand size, and therefore wouldn’t advance to Jean’s turn. I saved and restarted my turn numerous times, but still the same problem… My guess is my rating will go up if I can continue the game I started. I will say I’m ok without an AI (as others have indicated they desire). Jean is a fun simulation of an opposing player. And this app does make it easier to manage Jean. A digital game against others would be nice however.
EDIT: OK, after I shut the app, it did let me complete the game. There were a few times during the game when Jean couldn’t complete his turn, and I had to save a reload the game.
Bottom line: A little buggy, but a nice implementation. Information is pretty easy to find. So, if the bugs were eliminated for me, this would be five stars. Well done overall.

Hi Holdemstar17, thanks for this review and feedback! I'm sorry you encountered this bug - I've added it to our list. It sounds similar to a known bug which we are still working on, so we'll try to push a fix for it soon! At the moment, restarting the app should at least let you proceed as you have found. Feel free to send additional info and/or screenshots to email@example.com if you encounter this again. Thanks, and I'm glad you're enjoying the game otherwise!
Good adaptation, multiplayer issues IMO
I like this digital edition of Maracaibo. The imagery and icons are the same as the physical board game. It feels the same as physical. They also simplified combat so that it’s clear what options you have and the penalties you might pay or benefits gained, etc.
I play board game apps so that I can play solo against AI. Unfortunately, the only AI in this game is Jean the Solo Mode opponent. Instead of playing against an AI player you’re playing a solo mode against Jean who plays by different rules. I find Jean to be pretty difficult to beat. It might just be me but it seems like if you play against Jean the best way to beat them is to quickly navigate to the last space while making some good plays along the way. Each turn Jean gets heaps of rewards usually.
I would much rather play against AI that is following the same rules as me to feel more like a normal multiplayer match.
Otherwise the app is good and is fun to play? It’s also a great way to learn the game through the tutorial.

Hi Quidopher, thanks for this review! I'm glad you have been enjoying the game, especially the UI and simplified combat. I understand about Jean not being the most ideal opponent for the digital game. We wanted to implement the identical experience to the board game first before considering other more complicated options. The game is complex so we wanted to focus on good gameplay first. While a true AI is unlikely in the near future, we have received a ton of requests for this feature and will record your input as well!
New issues make this game unplayable
I’ve had this app for about a while now. It does have its issues but it has always worked for me and I’ve enjoyed playing it. However, recently there are bugs in the game that make it unplayable.
You can no longer scroll down to see the bottom of the board, which makes it so you can no longer use the Expedition mechanic in the game. Also when you draw back up to your hand size it cuts out half of the cards available to choose from. So the only options you have is draw from the deck or pick one of the 1st two cards. You can no longer look across the board to see the spaces ahead. It gets stuck at the top of the board now. So now you cannot see what Quests are coming up and it causes issues of moving across the main board.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled and it works for the 1st game, but if you open the app back up, it goes right back to the same issues. It has been a year since this was updated so I doubt it will be fixed which is a shame since I did enjoy playing this app.
