Mbox Splitter 4+

Thought this program would split into multiple mboxes, instead it splits out into multiple email files. Using because Apple mail is having problems opening single 16gb file, but this did not help (instead you get thousands of single emails, not an mbox).

I have a couple of large mbox files exported from gmail and when I give the smaller of the two (20GB) to this program it crashed. Perhaps it is the format? OK, let's try the larger one (40GB). It crashes.

What's happening here? As a programmer, let me investigate. Hmm. The application grows to fill all of memory (I have 64GB on this Mac) and beyond that it goes deep into virtual memory. 114GB worth on a 40GB mbox. It is taking the entire mbox into memory!

There is no need for this to happen. There is a simple linear algorithm that can scan the mbox and find all the message boundaries. Indeed, the split could happen in a single pass. Perhaps they want to let me select messages — I don't know, it never got that far.

Let me be really clear: there is no reason this program to take all of memory.
