  • Resolution for No Internet Access

    BostonCommuter1016

I have both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7+. Ever since the update I have been unable to purchase tickets or setup an account. The message of "no internet connection, unable to reach server" pops up every chance it gets. First I thought it was the new iPhone 7+ and maybe there was a glitch. Tried it on my old iPhone 6, same issue. My BF had no issues with the new app upgrade and it worked for him. I tried everything possible... deleted and reinstalled app. Went to ticket office for assistance, not helpful, already told me everything I knew. Called MBTA, no clue again. Emailed MBTA, still waiting for a response. Finally I gave up and just purchased a hard ticket, which is kind of an inconvenience. I figured it wouldn't hurt, so I made an appointment at Apple and the Geniuses there figured it out. Granted, not a happy resolution but a resolution. In short, if you have an iPhone, you need to go to your settings>general>reset>reset all settings. This is going to start your iPhone from scratch, then download the stupid app again and it should work. We tried it on the iPhone 6 and it gave me the ability to buy tickets. If your phone is not backed up you are going to lose some information such as saved data in certain apps. Hope that helps some of you with the same issue. Happy Commuting!

  • Works great for me

    Everyday rail rider

Five stars for ease of purchase - I was rushing to get on a train home for an appointment, and had forgotten to get a paper monthly pass at the window. I had heard about the app on the radio and frantically did a quick search and purchase on the train. We all know things rarely work when we most need them to, but as the conductor came down the row this purchase went flawlessly, and I held up the phone to him and that was it. Only four stars for not being subway and bus compatible, but I rarely need to use the subway so this is a good fit for people who use the commuter rail exclusively, and would buy a monthly pass anyway. I also love that the schedule feature in the app includes the route numbers, as these are what are referenced on the alert emails and the train times in those emails are pretty useless unless you are getting on at or near the start of the route. No issues with this app for me so far, after two weeks of daily use. Thanks MBTA!

UPDATE FOR iOS 6.1: IF THE APP IS CRASHING, DELETE AND RE-INSTALL. YOU MIGHT LOSE ANY TICKETS YOU HAVE ACTIVE IF YOU DO THIS, BUT THE APP WILL WORK AGAIN. Removed a Star for this. Get it together, people depend on this app being solid for their LIVELYHOOD (via commuting to work). Nothing less than 5-Nines is acceptible.Looks solid; needs more up-front info about what is and isn't yet available. If people went into Settings and read the FAQ then many complains about "why can't I ride the subway?" would be answered - but a FAQ isn't really a "Setting". Consider revising the label to "Info & Settings" or something similar. Waiting to use this until employer programs are activated; I sure hope that is a priority! It's a pain to have to pick up the pass every month, especially if I am away on vacation when they come out. I miss the days when I had a tap-card which would auto-reload electronically - finally here is a solution for Commuter Rail passengers. Keep working and make this universal for all services and you have a winner here!

  • Does the job but could be improved

I have been using MTicket for a few years now for my commute, and have found it to be reliable. However, as phone capabilities have advanced, there are missed opportunities for this app to keep up and expand its functionality. This app could benefit from a few changes —It would be nice if the ‘starred’ favorite button would actually keep all marked routes visible on the home page. I have attempted to save both inbound and outbound versions of my route on the main screen, but only the one ‘last used’ item stays up on the screen. It would also be helpful to create a purchase/ticket activation widget for easy access to the app. I have seen this done with the parking apps for mbta/commuter stations, and it would be nice to see something similar for this.Lastly, I think navigation of the start line -> end line is useful, but a bit clunky. It would be nice if there was a swap 🔁 function to flip the start line and end line. It would be even better if this can be done prior-to or after ticket purchase — since the zone and payment would remain the same, but buying 5 or 10-ticket passes wouldn’t be displayed as inbound only.Overall, MTicket is a helpful app for the daily commute but their interface could be more user-friendly.Thanks!

  • SEVERELY FLAWED!!

I’m giving this app only 1 star because the only part of it I can use is the schedules, and I suppose that’s worth a star. I really wanted to be able to use this to buy tickets, but the app will not accept my email address because there’s a dash/hyphen in it. No, not some wacky character—just a standard dash, which can be found on any keyboard, even the one on this app!!! When I was having trouble entering my email, I reached out to the customer “service” email and some nameless person confirmed that the app will not accept an email with a dash. No apologies, no timeframe for when it might be fixed, nothing. I was told that if I wanted to use the app, I would need to use another email. I already have a valid email address, as evidenced by the fact that I received the T’s response via that email address! But no, I will need to open/manage a new email account in order to use the app. Exactly the level of service I would expect from the MBTA.

  • Needs a better way to save favorites

The main screen shows three default tickets I can purchase without having to search through the list of departure/arrival stations. Since there's no way I can find to customize this list, I assume these are based on frequency of usage (i.e. tickets I purchase often would automatically be on the main screen), but currently the only three default ticket options available to me are tickets that I've only purchased once or twice. And there's no way to remove them, add others, or in any way customize this screen (except you can star any of the three default options to move them to the top of the list, but this is useless, since the list has only three options, none of which are tickets I ever want to buy), so it's a fairly useless feature as of now. I hope this is addressed in a future update.
