MealPlan is an easy, efficient way to plan meals and groceries.
"I am thoroughly enjoying your MealPlan app!" "Super app!" "Finally - a simple, easy-to-use menu planning app that looks good as well."
Now with Apple Watch (watchOS 4) support!
MealPlan is a weekly meal and grocery planning app that's focused on getting the job done efficiently. You use a simple interface to plan out meals like “Hamburgers on Thursday, Fish and Rice on Friday”. Recent meals are easily available or you can type in new items the first time you use them.
MealPlan is a universal app, and will sync between your iPhone and iPad using either iCloud or Dropbox. Plan your meals on the iPad's big screen, and automatically have your grocery list with you on your phone. And access your grocery list from your Apple Watch.
MealPlan creates your grocery list as you're planning meals. When you're done, tap the Grocery Basket to see the list, add new items, mark off items you already have, and then print it, email it, or sync it with your iPhone. This is a huge time saver!
And, on the iPad, once you’ve used the app for a few weeks, the Magic Wand will help you quickly fill out subsequent weeks, with a quick suggestions interface.
- Simple interface to plan out meals.
- Keep track of recipes and the groceries they use.
- Automatically generated grocery list based on your meal plan.
- Save grocery lists for later use (think "Party" or "Camping").
- Save a week's planned meals as a template to reuse.
- Combined search/add box makes it easy to add new items.
- Print out a week's plan to any AirPrint printer.
- Configure your own meals: Add snacks, or remove breakfast if you don't want to plan it.
- Email a plain text summary of the week's plan.
- Add a note to any meal item, including clickable links.
- Dropbox sync for families with multiple devices and accounts.
- Use Siri for groceries: "Add Milk to my Grocery List".
"Before MealPlan, I’d buy food at the grocery store and then forget I had it .. a few days later it would go to waste. A few minutes every week standing in front of the fridge with MealPlan in hand will help you get the most out of what you have on hand. Plan it, print it out and stick it to your fridge!"

With improvements, will be great
What I like:
I’m just looking for an app that can keep track of what we ate, mostly so that I can avoid repeating dinners too often, and also keep things fresh. I haven’t used it yet, but the “fizzle” magic wand suggestor thingie is probably going to get some heavy use.
I also like that my husband and I can both access the app, so either of us can be at the grocery store and know what we need to get and why.
What I’d like to see fixed:
If you use your iPhone reminders list as a grocery list, DO NOT LINK THE LIST TO THIS APP. When I linked it to our existing, master grocery list, it imported the active items and *deleted* the (100 or so) inactive items. Bummer. Big bummer.
Another issue: I hand-enter a lot of recipes that are in my recipe books. But this app doesn’t have an area for directions, only ingredients and notes. I’d like to have the entire recipe available on the app, not just the list of ingredients.
Another issue is that I can’t rate a dinner. Some nights I just need to put something on the table that I know everybody will love, and being able to scan through meals we’ve rated as 5 stars would make that a lot easier.
Lastly, when I’m entering ingredients I can only enter decimals because the only keyboard available to type on is one with digits and a decimal. That means no fractions at all, so 2/3 of a cup must be entered as .66 cup. Not a deal breaker, but the hint on the screen shows fractions being used, so it leads a user to think that fractions can be used.
Developer Response ,
Hi Larissa - thanks for posting your review, I appreciate the feedback.
Yes the app does move reminders from the list you pick into the app, deleting them afterwards. This is so you can use Siri to add a grocery simply by saying “Add milk to my grocery list”. Without them accumulating in Reminders. I will take a look at how this is worded.
Entering ingredients does use decimals but they should be displayed as fractions. If you enter .333, for example, it will be displayed as 1/3.
The best meal panning app ever!!
I've been using this app for two years now and absolutely love it! I've never had any issues with app performance even on my older devices. The menus are so easy to organize, edit, and add to its made keeping a menu a realistic part of my weekly routine! I also really love the "magic wand" feature. When you have no time to make a menu, it helps pick from items you used before to create an awesome menu! It's also great when you are running out of ideas of what to make. This app won't disappoint you!!
Can’t believe this app has such low ratings
This is the best app I have on my iPhone! This app has streamlined my family meal planning on Sundays. Meal planning now takes 5 mins instead of hours. Because of his app I don’t dread meal planning anymore. Also the best part is that I can upload the groceries list to my reminders. I share my reminders with my husband and he is able to do all the shopping based on my list. Seriously the best app! The low ratings could be that it’s not very user friendly. May be more tutorials.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
