Optimistic

I’m optimistic that this “Unlimited Memory” system could be improved to be a better memory system for my personal use and others. I have Dementia and was considering this system to help with my memory, however, before I could invest in this system it would need to be improved. Ie: the flash light was number one and later a man holding a hat in front of his face was a number one. They both can’t be number 1. The flash light should be number 1 and the man holding the hat could be number 10. Number 3 was a women biting into a strand of hair, and then number 3was a house. The shape of the letter numbers should conform to the image. The duck should be number 2 not a chicken standing on one leg. The number 78 is a target, and the whale number 5. Neither of these images look like a five or 78 to me. The guy in the armored suit an 01, and the elephant a 19 were good and that made sense. If your going to present it this way I would need a deck where I could associate the image more closely with the number. Ie: number 2 a swan, or number 9 a balloon on a string. I would like to pick cards in my deck that have images that more closely resemble the numbers that you assign and I think the association make sense, like the man on a cliff with the cliff resembling a number 7. Good luck. I will look forward to this system getting better.

Hello and thanks a lot for your review. Because some people prefere to use the Major system (sound system) and some other prefere the shape system (ressemblance) I incorporated the 2 systems in the app. You should choose one and not change to the other one... In the shape system 1 is a torch light while in the Major system it is a haT=1. Major system is more widely spread while the shape system is my personal preference, so I incorporated both. You can also add your own pictures if you want. I'll be happy to explain more, don't hesitate to contact me: contact@ginkgoacademy.com

Very well done app

I have been wanting to apply this memory technique since I read about it in Unlimited Memory. But like any skill you can develop, it requires some effort and practice. I didn’t want to put in the time to make a n Anki deck for my number pics. But this app has done most of the work for you! It uses spaced repetition which is the closed thing to a direct download into your brain that we have right now. The controls are intuitive and easy to use. There could be a little more explaination behind why the pictures match. Once I realized it was a peg system converting numbers to sounds it made sense. The pics are easy to change, though you do need them to be the right size or you’ll only see part of them, BUT over all, aside from a few pics the don’t resonate with me, it is a very well done app.

Edit:

Thanks a lot for this super nice review Allen ! Glad the APP could help you make the step toward building your table, you'll see once memorized in your head it is an amazing tool to use in daily life !
BTW, to have more info about why it is this preselected picture you can click the (...) at the bottom right of each card.

A good app that could be better with slight tweaks

I think this is the best app associated with the Mnemonic Major System. Although my complaints are very minor, I think they are valid. The most recent update made the app weaker instead of improving it. I don’t like that the pictures don’t have a word associated with the image. I think this would be beneficial to new comers. This is a feature that was available in previous iterations of the app. Also, you can change the image, but not the text associated with the image. So if one doesn’t like the word and wants a different term to help learn the system, the user has to remember the term (the point), but hard when still learning. I would like to see more info regarding the background Mnemonic Major System. Again, helpful to newcomers.

I had to temporarily delete the app. When I searched for it, “Ginko Memory” did not bring up the app. However, “Mnemonic Major” did. A slight clerical error on my part, but I think it would help. This is an issue with search terms and not the app itself though.

I love this app and as mentioned above, I think it is the best one around. I would give this a 4.9. It has such minor flaws, but I hope these flaws are addressed to improve it.

Hello and thanks a lot for your very complete review ! So, to answer point by point:
- Currently you have 2 decks in the APP. One based on shape (so no need for word). One based on the major system (and you can find the corresponding word by clicking the (...) button at the bottom right of each card. The new update let the APP integrates several decks in one APP, this will be interesting in future developments.
- Currently you can change the pic but can't edit the text. Since the approach is mostly visual I didn't think it was important for some users. Actually if global feedback shows me wrong I will address this.
- More explanations: When you use the APP you can already see some video flashcards explaining about the APP functions and the major system. This cards tigger by themself little by litle. There will be more and more of this guiding videos in the future. Actually the APP has many "not well known" functions. For example have you tied the Pi mode ?
- Difficult to find: unfortunately so true! I I guess this is the lot of every small APP with only little downloads and reviews.
Thanks for your support and interest, if you have more suggestions you can contact me at ginkgo.memory@yahoo.com
