Want to know exactly how good a driver you are? Improve your safety on the road by measuring and scoring your actual driving behaviors. Receive in-app tips and coaching to improve your driving. Compare results with colleagues to earn bragging rights at the office water cooler… or know exactly what you need to get there. Mentor is the only driving app providing a closed loop approach that goes beyond just scoring to focus on improving your performance and measurably reducing your risk of collision behind the wheel.
The driving score, developed by FICO™, is generated after each trip and over time using factors like speeding, phone use, hard braking, and sudden acceleration. Receive a score after every trip with key insights about where you had to use the brake too hard, drove too fast, or used your phone. It’s all measured using your phone’s GPS, gyroscope and other internal sensors. You will also find trending charts and comparison to the top 10% of drivers in your company. Short, interactive content will be prescribed to you in your playlist for you to take right on your phone while you are waiting for a meeting, in an airport or any time you have a few minutes to spare. (But, of course, never while driving!)
The app draws on eDriving’s 20 years of experience training millions of drivers around the world. Our methodologies and approach to driver engagement have been proven (and validated!) to reduce collisions by helping drivers be better in control of themselves behind the wheel. Mentor by eDriving for Business is our latest and most powerful approach in addressing the 94% problem: 94% of collisions are caused by driver behavior and attitude.

With Mentor you can:
• View your trips
• See your performance in key areas such as braking, acceleration, cornering, speeding, distraction, and engagement
• Get a score and immediate feedback after each trip
• Receive daily, weekly, and monthly trending charts
• See how you stack up against the rest of your organization
• Find out exactly where and how you need to improve
• Get short interactive coaching playlist content prescribed to you based on your driving
• Tag passenger trips so they don’t count against your score
Disclaimer: continued use of GPS can decrease phone battery life.

Uugggghh. It’s ok I guess

It does help you concentrate and focus on things that make you a better overall driver. The downside is the rating system. You have no idea what differentiates you from good vs great and why a trip that gets rated at good with 6 or 7 positive events and a different trip great with 0 events. Also there is no way to go back and edit if you hit the wrong button for recording driver/personal/passenger. I have meant to hit passenger numerous times while my wife has been driving and hit personal with my fat thumbs and I end up getting poor scores due to phone manipulation. Another thing is if you are in a vehicle you can’t do anything on the app until the trip is over. You should be able to mark passenger at the beginning of a trip so you can review trips on the app while sitting in the back of a vehicle. There should also be some kind of way to mark a cycling trip or atv ride. There’s just to many variables when you are being safe that can create bad scores without being the driver and not being able to edit any thing if you are in motion or hit a wrong button.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your Mentor experience. We applaud your desire to improve your safe driving behaviors and want to provide insights to help you do so. We are working to incorporate additional feedback into the weekly email as well as into the Mentor App to provide actionable intelligence you seek on which aspects of your behavior behind the wheel you should focus. We will be coupling this with updates to the FICO® Safe Driving Score, expected to be released by October 2019. Safe Driving!

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your Mentor experience. Mentor can be a powerful ally in helping you change your potentially high-risk behaviors behind the wheel. We recommend focusing on your trend of progress vs. each individual infraction or perceived error recorded by Mentor. Just as there are ups and downs in losing weight, there will be good drives and better drives. Through 2020, over 240,000 drivers had used Mentor over 1.5 billion miles driven and analysis showed that the riskiest drivers improved their FICO® Safe Driving Scores by 32% over 6 months and 38% over 15 months. So, keep your focus on the goal and keep striving to improve! eDriving is behind you every mile or kilometer driven!

I’m required to use this for work. I do understand where the app can work and has its purpose. It does make you slow down and that’s a positive thing. Now for the bad. It’s nearly impossible to get a driving score and keep it there. I usually have between 780 and 810. That ranks me well over my organization’s average score and top 10% of users are at 817. The thing that bother me most is the breaking. Why am I being punished for having to hit the brake to avoid an accident? I drove 2500 miles last month and had 2 hard breaking issues all month. I had a coaching session on my 2 hard braking. I’m well above the company average and this tool is used to punish you. I save the company costly repairs and save myself from an injury and because I hit the brake to save a life and money I get dinged. We should not be punished for saving lives and damage to company property. The hard braking needs to be an average of driving vs braking. I know there’s drivers out there that hit the gas to the floor and stomp on the brake consistently. I get that causes damage to the car and is a careless driver. I’m not one of them. We have enough stress at work then to be coached for hard braking saving company property and possible lives. I spend a lot of time on the highway. A semi truck came over on me. I had to hit the brake or get hit. Your app punished me for that. Thanks a lot for the coaching from management. I really appreciate your flawed system.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your Mentor experience. While the FICO® Safe Driving Score may be difficult to decipher at times, rest assured there is extremely sound methodology underlying its design developed in partnership with industry analytics leader FICO®. (Note: This has nothing to do with your FICO Credit Score – same company, different division). A recent validation study using data from the 2nd Strategic Highway Research Program, with over 3,500 participants and nearly 32 million miles of driving data (Dataset 10.15787/VTT1/IEKRD3), confirmed that drivers with low (below 710) FICO® Safe Driving Scores have a higher crash involvement rate than drivers with higher scores (above 710).
