This latest update really messed up Bluetooth connections. I connect to multiple nodes on a regular basis and this app will no longer stop trying to connect to a node so that I can actually choose one in range. I’m a huge Meshtastic fan, but this is really messing me up.
I am just getting started with using this app and these technologies, but I’m enjoying the experience in the app so far. I have a suggestion: add the ability to assign a friendly name to any node that when I look in my app, my direct messages, etc. the friendly name is shown and not the long or short name.
I see so much potential. I think this is a great app. As sensors develop and move forward, I would expect to see more integration with other systems. In the meantime, to get a five star review for me, you need to start thinking about some user-friendly functions inside the app. For example, I should be able to sort my nodes either by distance, by name, by signal strength, by time of last connect, by anything that is a data field displayed in the node displayed. Given time, I can also think of other user-friendly things. Maybe some functions in the app to fill in the gaps created by the sensors not always picking everything up.
I really want to like this, and I think the application could be great for emcomm purposes, but these apps are so unreliable. I don’t know why it can’t just work. I understand that the hardware is all over the place, but I’m not sure why this software is so buggy. I understand it’s open source but at the same time, I’m not a developer. I am helping to build the infrastructure out with outdoor nodes. It is just hard for me to throw more money at this when the app is so wonky.
This app is great with minor issues , but they keep on making it better!Would love to see1) Less lag (especially when radio is connecting) when opening message chat2) better visuals when a message gets acknowledged 3) more streamlining for general users4)don’t stack node circles on the map (yes I know it cycles when you press them but eh…)5) an animated trace route feature on the map (I’m getting greedy here)6) More filters for sorting nodes7) I don’t need an annoying alert to turn on WiFi/cellular in an app that doesn’t really need it!!8) The big one: Listen to the requests that your users are suggesting!! Many of the reviews here have good advice!!
UPDATE: The Bluetooth crash has recently been fixed and the app is working again so I upgraded my review to 4 stars. I would give it 5 if not for the fact that it does still sometimes crash and it gets very unstable and laggy with more than 320 or so nodes in the database. In all, still a very cool project with some great potential. I liked this app, in spite of some annoying bugs, until I updated it a few weeks ago. It is now completely unusable on my iPhone 13 as it crashes immediately if Bluetooth is enabled on my phone . I’ve uninstalled it several times and applied all the latest updates (one of which was supposed to fix a Bluetooth crash issue) but no luck. I hope this gets fixed. If so, I will update this review. In any case, be wary of “upgrades” if you rely on this app as it is now completely broken, in my experience. I really do appreciate all the work the developers have put into this - I just wish they would test the updates better before pushing them to the App Store.
