Description

Embrace your dark side with Messenger Black, a dramatic new look for Facebook Messenger. Flip the switch and watch the background dim and your messages take center stage, becoming more vivid and easy on the eyes. And now with Scheduled and Sunset to Sunrise modes, you can tune your messaging experience to the sun's natural rhythm.

This Safari extension works on messenger.com.

FEATURES:

Messenger Black features three modes designed to help you get the most out of Dark Mode, whatever your uses might be:

• Manual: Put yourself in full control with a single switch to enable or disable Messenger Black. Useful if you want to always have Dark Mode on.

• Scheduled: Set a start and stop time from which you want Messenger Black to run. Useful if you want to align Messenger Black with your own schedule or home automation system.

• Sunset to Sunrise: Our most sophisticated mode yet, Sunset to Sunrise automatically turns Messenger Black on at sunset and off at sunrise, matching your circadian rhythm and the surrounding environment.

Each of these features can be enabled or disabled from a convenient control panel in the Safari toolbar.

PRIVACY

Sunset to Sunrise mode in Messenger Black uses your approximate location about once per day to determine the sunset and sunrise times in your specific area. This location is only used temporarily and deleted immediately after use. For more information, please refer to our privacy policy at messengerblack.ryanmohta.com/privacy.

Missing Something?

Is this a 'stand alone' messenger app for Facebook Messenger or for use in Safari browser only??
Only thing I get when running this app is a window telling me to open Safari preferences and click on Messenger Black to enable the extension.. When clicking on Finish, NOTHING happens other than the above noted window closing. It does say to "visit messenger.com or facebook.com/messages and refresh the page to see the extension take action."
Once there...messenger.com, and attempting to sing in, I get 'Invalid log-in' credentials. Using Facebook to get to Messenger, if opening a message window for a contact in a new tab, it opens showing a black background on the app (thus the name "Messenger Black", but when just opening a messenger window in Facebook itself, in the usual manner, it takes on the look of the Facebook window. NO change to 'Black' ability noted.
So...again..is this a 'stand alone' app or just a web browser (Safari) extension. If only a Safari extension...I see NO use for it. May just as well just open Facebook and use the Messenger ability in Facebook itself. As for it being a 'stand alone' app...I don't think so. A wast of time downloading and installing in that case.
Try again...deveoper(s). NEEDS A LOT OF WORK!!!
Rated 4 stars because NOTHING merits 5 or 10 star rating...when made by man. Only things rating 5 or 10 star ratins are that which is made by GOD. The 4 stars is for how well it seems to work as a separate window tab in Safari browser. Not sure if it works at all in any of the other notable web browsers. But does NOT work with the Facebook Messenger inside Facebook.

Works well!

Been using another app to enable dark mode when browisng in Safari, but it does not seem to work well with messenger. Found this on the app store and its free so I gave it a shot and so far no regrets!

Fishing App!!

not an app. An extension only that "Permissions for Messenger Black: Can read sensitive information from webpages, including passwords, phone numbers, and credit cards" as described by the extension itself. DO NOT USE

Developer Response ,

Thank you for the review! The reason for this warning is because Messenger Black needs to view messenger.com’s source code in order to make changes to the website’s styling (for instance, changing the background colors of certain elements from white to black). If sensitive data such as passwords or credit card numbers are present in the source code (if you send this information to a friend through Messenger, for example), it is theoretically possible for Messenger Black to view this data. However, messenger.com’s source code is read automatically by your computer, not by any humans, so it is impossible for anyone to access your sensitive data through Messenger Black. Hope this helps!
