Metanota is a beautiful OSX client and editor for creating and managing notes using well known cloud based services like SimpleNote and Evernote or simply local notes on your Mac.

Other note-taking cloud providers will be added constantly.

This version is free but supported by advertising, an In-App Purchase should be used to hide the ads forever.

• All functions are easy to see and access
The user interface is carefully streamlined, no unnecessary elements are left floating around.
Metanota’s goal is to avoid interfering between you and your work.

• Intelligent auto-formatting
The note editor automatically formats the first line of a note as header and shows lists as, well, lists.
Or, if you like plain and simple text, you can selectively turn off each feature.

• 100% in sync with your SImplenote/Evernote accounts
All notes and tags, even deleted notes, are kept perfectly synchronized
But you can work offline as long as you want.

• Fully manage Simplenote tags
Tags are presented as folders, making easy to neatly organize your content.
Local folders can be created, renamed or deleted, every change being promptly replicated to your SimpleNote account.
And, last but not least, Metanota is maybe the only option we have to actually rename a Simplenote tag.

A network connection is required to sync with Simplenote or Evernote accounts.

Just try it, it’s free !

Stores data in proprietary database

With the effective demise of most OS X Simplenote clients (NV, nvAlt, Justnotes, Nottingham, etc) I decided to try the "ad supported" version of Metanota (so far I haven't seen any ads).

It seems useable, but unfortunately it fails my critical test -- the synchronized files are stored in a proprietary database. I want to have them accessible to the files system, as managed by nvAlt and NV. That way, when Simplenote dies (it seems halfway there) I can move them to Dropbox easily.

It also is not better than Simplenote or altNV at managing Simplenote tags. I can't sort alphabetically for example.

It also synchronizes less frequently than altNV -- every 20 seconds instead of every character or so.

Overall I think this is a four star app, and I have deep appreciation for anyone trying to create a Mac app these days -- especially given the state of Simplenote. Unfortunately, it's not right for me.

Excellent App for Simplenote Users!

Still a big fan having used this for a while longer. Definitely more elegant and functional than JustNotes, though that app seems to get the attention of the Mac blog titans! Metanota's strength is the clever implementation of tags and favorites to create "folders" - an excellent way to keep batches of more immediate notes separate from longer-term "reference" type of notes. Perfect in full-screen mode on an 11" Macbook Air, by the way. Highly recommend!

It's A Helpful App

The app has a been a great help for keeping notes over the years for me but I also feel that there needs to be some sort of update to it to keep it fresh.
