I have an external usb microphone. After setting up Mic Drop for PTT, I thought I was safe leaving my mic unmuted in my video meeting. As I was screaming at my kids, everyone at work heard me even though the mic drop icon showed as muted. After talking to the developer, I learned that some obscure USB mics or audio interfaces do things very atypically and just aren't compatible with Mic Drop. They have a list of supported hardware, which I recommend checking out first if you're using a USB mic. Either way, the developer was prompt to respond and help clear things up. I give 4 stars for the superb support in getting issues figured out!

I've been using this with Zoom and MS Teams for work-related conference calls, and I also support committee members who use Zoom for public meetings. Even though Zoom and Teams both have built-in mute toggle, and Zoom also has built-in Push-To-Talk (PTT), I prefer using mic drop as my microphone control because I can use the same key combos to mute in different apps, and I always know for sure when I am muted because the status is shown in the macOS menu bar. While apps like Zoom and Teams do have mute indicators, having the status in the macOS menu bar works better for me because it's always visible, regardless of what is foremost on my display. The committee members that I support overwhelmingly prefer the Status Window in mic drop to know when they are toggled on or off.When I attend a meeting where I expect to speak a lot, I use PTT with a key combination that I prefer. When I attend a meeting where I am mostly silent, I toggle mute using the icon in the macOS menu bar. Having that menu bar icon status gives me assurance that my background noises won't be heard on the conference.

Once combined with something like Karabiner, which can map a mouse button to keyboard input, this thing works just fine. Unfortunately it doesn’t have built-in support for mouse bindings; it assumes you want to use the keyboard to mute and unmute for some reason.I’ve been using voice chat for two decades and never once have I wanted to take my hands off the mouse or movement keys to mute/unmute.Apart from needing minor workarounds to do its job, it’s pretty nice. The visual, audio, and menu bar indicators are super helpful to prevent "sorry, I was muted" in the middle of your game. This is one of the only solutions to allow you to use something like Vencord that doesn’t have global input abilities.

As a consultant, I regularly switch between web conference services (Webex, Teams, Zoom, etc.) based on whether it's me or my customers setting it up. Some services have a mute shortcut, some don't. Most you have to be in the app to do it, and I'm regularly using other apps during the call so their shortcuts don’t work. This covers all bases and then some! My only request would be the option to have an audio feedback tone when muting or unmuting so that I know with confidence I am muted without leaving a full-screen app or Workspace and conversely I know I’ve unmuted to speak.

I wrote a previous review about v2.0.0 and how it would immediately crash upon launch. However, after contacting Mic Drop directly, and providing them the crash logs, they determined the cause of the crash and published a new version within hours. The new version works flawlessly and brings some much needed additions to an already great app, such as scriptability (via AppleScript). Well done!

Google Meet automutes when system mic is muted. And it doesn’t do the same when unmuting. This results in more clicking / hassle then necessary when using the app. I think I wish it was more tightly integrated with individual meeting app’s shortcuts, so it communicates on their level instead of confusing them with system level muting.Updating after developer response thank you!

As someone who is on video calls all day for work, this app is essential for me. I was on the MacOS Tahoe Dev Beta since its release, and the mute widget wasn’t working in the beta. I contacted the developer, and informed him of this. They informed me that they were working on a fix for the issue. Within a few days, the update was released, and the issue was solved. I highly recommend this app.

I just got a new Mac, my first so I am getting use to using it still. I purchesed this app and when I tried to open it, it just disappeares into the background not to be found ( again, Mac noob here). They responded with in minutes and now I can mute my mic easily with a push of a button.

Very simply gives you the ability to mute your microphone. It even has the ability to use keyboard shortcuts - no other app needed.You can turn on visual notifications so you get to see when it’s turned on or off.

This app is real handy. However, it would be perfect if it had one additional feature:I appreciate the push to talk feature, but I don't appreciate that I have to hold to talk. Instead, I'd like to hit a key combo to unmute my mic and then hit that key combo again once I'm ready to mute again. I don't want to have to hold the key combo down in order to be heard.

The app looks great. On startup, the app warned me that my audio interface wasn’t supported. Kudos for the warning.Ideally, the app would support all USB Class Compliant audio interfaces such as my Komplete Audio 6 MK/2 audio interface and give me the ability to choose which channels I wanted to mute.

This app has been useful, and it does one thing very well: mute your mic using a handy global shortcut or single click on the menubar. I've also been very impressed with the developer, who added a feature after I made a request. Thanks for that!
