I enjoy Optime's games; they're typically free or inexpensive, well made, and fun to play. This one, to me, is a little glitchy compared to all of their other games; the screen used to be more responsive & intuitive but the last few weeks it's gotten very touchy, and the slightest nudge will send me blazing across the screen to the other sides if I did a huge finger swipe. This same over-sensitivity causes me to now sometimes click a square [usually a bomb] when I was just wanting to scroll a tiny bit. Not sure what's changed but it used to be simpler to play whereas now it can be frustrating when you're moving around the board, which you're always doing. I still like the game a lot - it has ample replay value. The only requests I would make would be for the developers to...1 - make the in-game volume be attached to the game and not my ringer's volume, and 2 - the persistent nag screen [check out our other great software!] each time I'm switching back & forth between apps needs to go; it should only be seen once each time the game is fired up. I already have all of those games - stop badgering me to get them every one or two minutes when I'm switching between apps. Get your games on-board with fast app switching. Great stuff Optime! I always look forward to your new releases.
Regularly crashes when going to a new game, forcing you to view an ad when you restart the app. Good for maximizing ad views. Not good for users. An already bad user interface turned awful with the addition of popup ads in the middle of a game. If you are racing against the clock, forget it. (Haven't seen this happen lately)Press and hold to place a flag is too slow to use on a regular basis. Flag mode helps that; but it is awkward to switch between modes, and you can't clear a single square while in flag mode. If you accidentally place a flag, erasing it is a pain, as you have to click twice to pass through the useless question mark. As you pan across the board, it would be nice to have a clear indication that you've reached the edge, such as a bright border. And then there are no statistics such as top scores or averages. No comparisons with other players.Even the help section has a bad user interface. Standard gestures don't work to flip pages. There is no way to go back one page. And what the help shows for a cleared square that is empty (white) is not what you actually see in a game (blue).
This app is a fairly good minesweeper game with a couple of annoying problems. The worst problem is that you can't save. Even if you exit the app for a second and then come back, you have to start all over. Also, when you lose the game an annoying dialogue box pops up which sometimes prevents you from seeing what you did wrong (which can be frustrating if you just spent the past 10 minutes playing one game.)Other than that though, this app is fine.
I have loved this game since I first discovered it on my PC back in the Windows 3.1 days. The only complaint I have about this version is that I would love to have it switch to landscape mode when I change the orientation of my iPad. I also keep blowing myself up because I have been so conditioned to use the two buttons on my PC mouse and forget to check to see whether "flag mode" is on or off, but that is no fault of the game designers, just my Pavlovian response.
Nice visuals and the ads aren't too bad, but the scrolling really slows my game down (when you scroll too far to the side and it bounces back). Any way to disable this and make it a hard border? Could just be iPhone though. I'm ditching this for the one of the less-nice-looking-but-no-bouncy-scroll alternatives in the App Store, as it really doesn't let me play as fast as I'd like because the bounce back makes me have to wait before clicking again, or else avoid hitting the wrong square.
This is the first minesweeper application I have ever used and it is an extremely fun and addicting game! However... It is extremely hard on the higher difficulties and when you make a mistake there is no option to redo a move. There is the option for multiple lives but that I find is more distracting. Overall great game! Get it
