I have two minut devices. One I have had for perhaps 4 years, the other I got last year. I loved the first one so much I got the second and use them in Airbnbs that I run. The problem is the app. And I should say more recent changes to the app, and lack of response to complaints and fixes. Right now the app does not say current times and is not updating, so it is not recording movement in the rentals, temperature or any relevant information. I noticed it last night, emailed them, no response still, 24 hours later. That is really bad service. I would recommend a different company altogether.EDIT: I have beeb advised today, almost a week later!! That my subscription has been “cancelled” (I did not cancel it) and that is why, it apparent stopped updating. So prepare for random cancellations if you sign up for this!! DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!!

I keep getting alerts that things are too loud in my rental. It is part of my home, so I’m able to hear everything that goes on. So far when I get the alerts that it’s being too loud, I am the only one at home and in the rental. No music, and I’m a writer, so I’m sitting here in silence and keep getting alerts that the people in the Rental are being too loud. There is no noise and there are no people there. Multiple times. Thank goodness I am on site or I would’ve been contacting renters accusing them of being too loud, which would’ve made me look like a horrible host when they weren’t even there!

Minut’s software and (especially) hardware are some of the best-designed among my many IOT devices. The level of detail in functionality, and number of things that the little device can do are fantastic. I bought it to monitor my Airbnb for parties and smoke alarms, but also repurposed it to keep an eye on my sourdough bread fermentation temperatures. My only gripe with the software is every time I have to make several taps to get to see my Minut unit’s status, and the temperature screen. It would be great if it defaulted to displaying a Minut unit if you only have one, and also if you could reorder which metrics you want to see (e.g. if you are more interested in temperature than motion).

Minut install took five minutes with a simple magnetic hanging system. Adjusting the settings takes a couple days of trial and error but landing on the right balance of settings is key. We’ve had a few fire alarms from smoke due to smoking and received a text instantly. It’s nice to have that piece of mind for times when you may not be home. While we aren’t normally super loud in the duplex we live in it’s nice to receive a warm g when our noise level reaches a point at night that would be disruptive to our neighbors so we can adjust volumes if needed. I didn’t anticipate this being a plus but the convenience of an optional night light feature for using the restroom in the middle of the night is priceless. The device does connect to Alexa and Google Home but I’d like to see more integration by voice command for when I leave the house.
