A Good App For Lurkers

My hats off to Kirrik and Chris for getting this app up and running. Version 1 runs smooth on the 3GS, with no crashes as of this posting. The latest news, fighter data base (where's Darnell "Doc" Mason's stats?), and event tabs all run well and extremely intuitive. I hope enough of the UG mob invest in version 1 so Kirrik and Chris can give us update where we one can actually post to the UG, or vist the OG forums. If you are UG lurker, this app is great, all of the pics and videos normally blocked on my work computer are visible and articles that are linked to other sites pop open within an in-app browser. (So if someone post that dreaded link to matbattle, exiting back to the UG is fast). Again I encourage UG curious, lurker and posters to grab this app if you have an iPhone or iTouch your dollars will go into improving the functionality of this app, so one day we will be able to post, and who knows, maybe even vist the TapOut forums?

Love the UG Ap!

This application is basically divided into 4 sections; Latest News, Fighters Database, Events and Forums.

News: The news section runs perfectly and allows users to quickly and easily read the latest published articles from the MMAWEEKLY. The format makes for good readability, navigation and nice visuals are included. The one add-on I would like to see in an update would be the ability to search past articles.

Fighters Database: The Fighter Database on this application is impressive; very impressive. This application pulls from the actual database used as the MMA database for the Association of Boxing Commissions. When you navigate into this section, you are prompted with a search interface. Finding fighters is simple and profiles are impressive.

Events Section: This is basically a calendar of events. It's oranized well into Upcoming Events and Recent Results. This is a pretty simple section, but perfect at the same time. Curious if there will be live results for big shows.

Forums: This is where you can access the famous MMA Underground community. My personal opinion is that this is the best place to get inside info on the sport of MMA. This is where the pro's post, the hardcores and event the TUF noobs. As of now, the application only allows access to the forums without posting/sign-in ability. Despite this minor set back, haveing even limited access is very cool. I look forward to future updates.

$1.99 well spent.

$2? Get MMA Torch for free instead!

If you are a casual MMA fan that mostly watches fights off Internet clips or on free TV, this app is a waste of two bucks. First, their articles are just short clips from other sites like MMAWeekly. Hello, I have my RSS reader for that. MMA Torch is free and gives most all the coverage you need FREE!

Yeah, this app has a very comprehensive fighter database and it does a good job tallying results from matches. So what tho... Thats what Wikiamo or Wikipanion is for! I look up all my fav fighters (and everything else) there. Who cares about all the amateur action or schedules. Most people want to follow the Pros, not the Joes.

Also I find the italics font really annoying. Do I really need or care to see bikini pix of Rich Franklins wife? As if they don't have enough to write about. Wait, they dont write anything, its just clips of other sites. MMA Torch actually has full length original articles, in depth analyses... Not that I always agree with them.
